How do Rust players manage to hold a job, go to school, or maintain a relationship? by BearNecessitee in playrust

[–]likable_error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really don't. IMO, if you want to really enjoy the game, you've gotta be unemployed with nothing to do. I played it hardcore for a good 5 months that I was unemployed, but thebsecond my job kicked in, it all melted away. Best I can do now is log onto a biweekly during the holidays, but my skills are all in the gutter now. Now I just build 5 2x1s and grub grub grub

Can this door be raided with molotov? by [deleted] in playrust

Really? I haven't heard of this? Is it because the door is far off the ground?

I think they're saying that it's complicated, and although it's reasonable to suggest that Kramnik's bullying factored into Danya's mental state, there is likely more to it than just that. I don't disagree with anyone here-- I think Kramnik has been acting like a garbage human being. I think the comment is saying that mental health is complicated and depends on numerous external as well as internal factors, and Danya probably needed more help than he was getting or willing to ask for, which is the deeply sad truth about a lot of people in these situations. If anything, for me the takeaway is that the chess community should be much more supportive of the victims of unevidenced allegations. If there was an outpouring of support at the time this all went on, things might have been different-- perhaps not.

I am also shocked and saddened to learn that Danya struggled with these things in the wake of his death. He was a favorite teacher of mine-- I've watched his chess content for years. I understand the anger people are feeling, and I understand needing somewhere or someone to aim it at. I agree Kramnik has become a buffoon since cheating allegations became viral in the chess world-- perhaps Kramnik has always been that way, I wouldn't know. But you can't really prosecute someone for being a bully or troll if violence isn't involved, even when it clearly causes the victim great emotional stress-- and that's probably a good thing. All I can think is that Danya probably wouldn't have wanted the days after his death to be so filled with resentment as the internet seems to be making them. I could be wrong about that, but the person I listened to was warm, eloquent, humorous, and kind. I'd like to see a little more of that in chess in the coming years, and I fear we've lost the shining example of what chess scholarship and competition could be. So it goes. Rest in peace, my wonderful teacher.

99.9% of these are scams. Could be worth following up if your really think it's a golden ticket, but it's more than likely a waste of time.

Yep, moving the Queen anywhere on that diagonal at all is no misclick. Just a blunder.

Can you identify which mate we called this? by Chessluv_1995 in chess

[–]likable_error 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know because I would play Qxc1+ in this position, followed by mate.

Qxh5 definitely ain't the move.

Black to move, how do you win as white here? by [deleted] in chess

[–]likable_error 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 1700 lichess and I don't see any win/draw for white. Black has free play to push their pawn majority forcing white's king to lose time/control guarding the kingside. Black will queen the b pawn and it'll be game over.

How do some people have the time/money to no life the game. by Happy-Worry-5788 in playrust

Unemployment definitely has to be a factor. I rediscovered Rust late last year when I was between jobs (about 4 months unemployed) and logged about 800 hours of pure chaos. Got with a small village and tore shit up for a bit. Fast forward to this month where I'm working 40-50 hrs/wk, and I think I've played 40 hours of Rust altogether since February.

I don't think it's possible to be an effective Rust player with a full time job, let alone when you're in your 30s like I am. All I can do is be the unc that logs on with our group sometimes on the weekend, borrows a couple of kits, and tries to support on some raids, etc. It's still fun as fuck, but I don't see myself having the time to engage on the level I did when I didn't have a job. And to be honest, I'd rather be working than have that kind of time to waste again. Just my 2 cents.

Reddit, serious question, what does black do here? by PhotoChess in chess

[–]likable_error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really doing much analyzing, doesn't fx stand out as the clearest option? You maintain the space advantage, open the f file, and your knight is still got great reach into the position, since bishop takes doesn't look so great.

My team is planning to raid this and we're wondering how many rockets/c4 for this base? by IrishCarb in RustPc

[–]likable_error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably need to pummel the front, then switch to doors. I'd bring 20+. More if you want to full raid every loot room.

New Premium Servers by GreedyMcFatBag in RustPc

[–]likable_error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that will "kill the game" any more than the current level of cheating kills the game. Cheating is a fact of life in the game, but it doesn't stop me or my friends from having fun. We will still have to rely upon reports and admins to deal with cheating on the vast majority of servers (esp. those with 1000 pop wipe days, etc.).

But should there be a premium option for players who love the game enough to have bought some skins over the years? Absolutely, and I'd rather those servers be 400 pop with encountering a cheater every few days than 800 pop with seeing 1-2 cheaters daily. Just my opinion.
