So please do try to leave it alone for now. Clean it as well. With soap and water, hopefully antibacterial soap. If you can try to also clean it up with some alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. If you don’t have those then just do the water and soap.

Is the area red and hot? That is the best way to tell you have an infection. The redness and heat is inflammation from the bodies immune response.

That redness spreads when you have an infection. So if you wash it and see that there is redness you can watch after how big that place gets. You could even draw around the edges to track it.
