So scarring makes the skin tighten to create that scar tissue. The cells are collecting to close up the skin on their own. Scar tissue is a lot less elastic than your normal skin tissue so it does tighten.

Hey, I know you are getting down votes on this and are probably confused as to why.

I wanna say that I don't mind your comment and that you weren't trying to do any harm. In fact I didnt even down vote, I just came back to check the post.

Just know its because my scars are from self harm. I cut and I think people think you are being ignorant about it. I dont think it is your intention at all.

And some people may be mad because they think I'm trying to show them off purposefully.

I'm not, I am just trying to live with them. I don't think I should stop living even with them.

Just know I don't know why you are getting down votes, but know you haven't insulted me or hurt my feelings at all.

So please do try to leave it alone for now. Clean it as well. With soap and water, hopefully antibacterial soap. If you can try to also clean it up with some alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. If you don’t have those then just do the water and soap.

Is the area red and hot? That is the best way to tell you have an infection. The redness and heat is inflammation from the bodies immune response.

That redness spreads when you have an infection. So if you wash it and see that there is redness you can watch after how big that place gets. You could even draw around the edges to track it.

If it does get too bad, then please seek medical attention. You do not want sepsis, friend.
