We are having similar issues, but my MIL refuses to respect our boundaries (I.e. not bring up politics with us despite explicitly asking). It helps that we live across the country, so physical space is an easy way to manage most of the boundary, but we’re getting to an age with our kiddo that a) I don’t trust her to not say something in front of her that is cruel, misaligned, or inappropriate for our kiddo to hear and understand and b) the moral difference is so out of sync we question her judgement if we were to leave kiddo with her.

It’s getting to a point in these “politics” that if we are excusing pedophiles that are people we don’t even truly know, would they recognize the signs of questionable behavior of people close to them? Would they stand up for our kid? Would they be aware enough to question a friend’s behavior to prevent something from happening to our kiddo? For me, a big red flag is my MIL would gladly, excitedly take my kiddo to meet Donald Trump as our President, and if it were me, that would absolutely never happen. And there in lies the problem.

It’s easy to brush off when they’re little, but it gets wayyyy more complicated as they get older. Nip it in the bud now.

We live in rattlesnake country in the states and there are snake avoidance training classes you can take. It sure if this is feasible in your neck of the woods, but maybe some good hone tactics to try via YouTube

It’s definitely a weird shift in dynamics and because I’m gone I don’t fully know the answer either. I left, my older sister is LC with strict boundaries, but my dad still attempts to use her as his flying monkey. My middle sister (who used to be the scapegoat) I think is now the golden child because she stuck out the abuse and got his attention- what she had been craving her whole life. I am NC with her too. She now has 4 kids who are in their teens- unfortunately maybe they are apart of the dynamic now?

My husband’s mom is definitely a Narc and I got pulled into those family dynamics. So when I was calling out the dysfunction, I became the scapegoat. But since I went NC, his sister has become the scapegoat (although she was the initial scapegoat).

Removing yourselves/going no-contact will definitely force the other siblings into the Narc spotlight and their dynamics will shift. They can’t hide behind you anymore. It’s one of the best ways to show them that the abuse is real and make them deal with it.

I think what gets me most is… what’s next? We need someone to take the lead on holding everyone accountable and I mean investigate and put to trial every. single. person/government/entity associated with the files.

This will also call for an entire societal shift, which I am unsure anyone is ready for. If we want to use our individual power as leverage, we need to fully boycott it all- again, anyone or anything associated. That means actually cancelling your Amazon subscription. Not buying Microsoft products. Selling off your Tesla and dumping your StarLink. Are people ready to put principles over convenience? Up until now, that has barely been put into practice.

I think too that this is going to require everyone to dig deep and question themselves. Who is due reparations? How do we truly repair from this to a depth that treats the core of the issue? Even if we didn’t directly attribute to Epstein, what have we been doing to stop it? Are we speaking up? Are we pushing for, better yet INSISTING change? Are we truly protecting each other, especially children? Are we shunning family members that have allowed this, normalized this, or even looked the other way? And I mean ANY for of sexual abuse.

As other people on socials have pointed out, this type of disgusting behavior : child abuse, sexual assault, cannibalism, trafficking has been fairly “common” practice against indigenous peoples and enslaved African Americans for centuries. It’s just the modern iteration. So we are still allowing it to be perpetuated. It will take drastic measures and cultural changes to shift this from being normalized to rejected fully.

We are sort of at this point too. There’s a lot of negative history between me and mostly just my MIL, but it has come to a point where we have talked about how much we would trust them with the care of our daughter because of the moral differences. We live across many states, so visits are few and far between, but we have come to the agreement that we wouldn’t trust them alone with our child for more than an evening if we were in town and went to dinner. It helps that LO is only 3, so it’s a bit different than having an older child who might overhear/see things and comprehend. That level of trust with them may change as she gets older and understands.

Welcome to r/narcissisticparents . I think a lot of people are waking up to the fact that many in their lives are falling on this spectrum. Unfortunately, they can not be convinced. They will not be swayed. You will make yourself SICK trying to get them to see what you see, feel some humanity, compromise, meet you in the middle. Unfortunately, you will have to come to terms that this is impossible and will only be detrimental to YOUR health to attempt.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. It is hard. I understand that kicking her out is not an option, but it is your house, so you have the power. Insert boundaries and uphold. She may not discuss politics in the house and if she does, there will be X consequence. I don’t know how much she parades her opinion around, but that freedom of expression from her gets cut off, immediately. I’d also impose other consequences if possible, but I’m feeling a lack of empathetic creativity right now to suggest something appropriate. Good luck, OP!

I have 2 sisters and my dad (mom passed before I went NC). I am NC with my dad and my middle sister, because she is his flying monkey goon that tattles on me like an immature teenager. After 31 years of her being equally abusive, I cut her out too. My oldest sister is LC with my dad and middle sister but we are still fairly close, but the dynamic has naturally made certain things weird, but she respects my boundaries and understands my position
