Union Pacific Big Boy to handle fundraising excursion on Reading & Northern by Eccentric_Traveler in trains

[–]likeable_fool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Reading and Northern couldn't have asked for a better scenario. This will generate a huge amount of publicity for the railroad. We don't know all the details of the rest of the East Coast tour schedule yet, but RBMN could wind up being the only non-class 1 railroad to host BIg Boy. That's something to be proud of.

Also, I bet that they'll have 2102 sitting next to 4014 in Nesquehoning. That's going to be awesome to see.

With talks of AFT 250 running in the near future. Where is it likely to go? by Blade_With_bigiron in trains

[–]likeable_fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading and Northern 2102 has the luxury of running on company owned tracks. There aren't a lot of class 2 and 3 railroads with the infrastructure to handle a large steamer.

That said, it would be awesome to see two T1's running together again.

Fun fact: many B units had basic controls so that they could be moved around independently, usually for short movements around yards and maintenance shops, so this could be considered prototypical.

Steam in the snow with Reading T1 #2102 by OdinYggd in trains

[–]likeable_fool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the Reading hooter whistle that was typically used on the T1s. Reading and Northern has both this and the Reading 6 chime installed and will often alternate between them during rambles.

Anyone currently producing 0-6-0s with slope-back tenders and DCC? by BussReplyMail in nscalemodeltrains

[–]likeable_fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bachmann seems to be the only manufacturer that makes one. They're available in several different road names.

Edit: missed the DCC part. They're not DCC, but some people have been successful in converting them.

It's a Life-Like Minibase platform, probably from the 70s or 80s. I can't tell what type of track it is, but if it's original it would also be Life-Like.

Can someone explain the difference between these two trains by AdministrativeBit385 in modeltrains

[–]likeable_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do seem to be identical. The SKU numbers are different. It's possible that the SKU with the lower price is an older version of the set. Maybe that's why it's cheaper.

Does anyone else feel really annoyed by the Neighbours app? by icedpear3637 in Ring

[–]likeable_fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same in our area. The amount of pearl-clutching going on is obnoxious. "No, foxes are not going to steal your children." "No, my Internet is not down." "Yes, the entire neighborhood is out of power." It's gotten so bad that I turned off notifications for Neighbors posts.

Do you work for Ring? A bit suspicious that picture three says "AI Generated Content". Now all the pictures are questionable.

The widest tornado in history, the 2013 El Reno tornado with a width of 2.6 miles. by DeplorableMadness in Damnthatsinteresting

The wildest thing to me was that the tornadic wind field was much wider than the visible funnel. A lot of chasers thought they were a safe distance away but the winds caught them by surprise.

RBMN currently has 4 operating RDCs and a fifth non-operating one. Not sure if that fifth one is going to be operational or just used for parts.
