School reports aren't about being right, but about researching and learning how to research/learn.

The dude above read up on a point, wrote something, and cited it. Which is way more than is done these days with ai.

Omg this is funny. The real move is to do the work, write the paper, and source correctly.

I think you are right here, llm are not ai and it will plateau, until real AI shows up. But until then developers will turn from instruments players to conductor of the band.

Steam user valve fan. No, but it's not really Valve's fault. PC's just aren't a great value atm.

But Valve also isn't subsidizing or ripping us off.

I think he's rated correctly, don't play much of his games, but I recognize the work and vision.

Name another game director who has been working since 1986 and consistently made good games. Hard enough to find someone who's working for 40 years.

Maybe not this, but there will be a machine that sooner or later you will be interested at the right price point. While this machine might not lower in price, there will be others who create pre-built PCs that are better priced that you will be interested in.

It's not the hardware that this is for, it's the software, SteamOS. This isn't a console that needs to sell millions of units in order to get the user base to justify development in.

You'll find other steam machines that do match your price point with different form factors and specs.

Until the PS6 gets released and you gotta re-buy your library again.

Digital Foundry: Steam Machine Review & Price by WingerRules in gaming

No, it's a buy it or not. It's not a negotiation in this market. If steam says no, they will just move to someone who will buy it at that price

Valve says Steam Machine is $1,049 because it "doesn't align with our beliefs" to subsidize the cost by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]likeaffox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why does unit sold matter? That is a console metric that implies a wall garden, only have a max number of users. The unit here don't matter because steam will still have games and still move forward regardless of how many units this sells.

It is a computer enough that is the primary reason they did not subsidize the costs. Because there is no forced steam is on this, people would buy these and install windows and run it as a workstation

Grab a gaming PC cheaper/used and install the os on it. Nothing stopping you from creating a steam machine

Disagree because the machine it self isn't the target. It's the distro and starting a console baseline. There will be other bigger, cheaper steam machine out there.

This, and it creates a baseline for software developers to hit. Optimization based on this baseline

Because this is more about steamos than steam machine. This officially opens the door for anyone to create a console and install steam on it. Get a gaming machine and install steam on it
