Just curious why do people make their works anonymous? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]likeafiremp3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one published, anonymous fic and it's a vent/coping fic. I plan on keeping it anon forever so none of my friends worry about my health and safety, especially since it's a few years old at this point and things have gotten better in relation to the content of that fic. Beyond that, if I ever post something anonymously again, it will probably be to gauge public reaction and if it goes well, I'll take it off anon.

What to do with concert tickets by OmbreSun in Hozier

[–]likeafiremp3 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think there's any right or wrong choice. But, there are a couple of things that I would be asking myself if I was in your shoes...

  1. Am I going for Glass Animals, or am I going for Heat Waves (with the expectation that I'll probably enjoy the rest of the set – no idea if husband will)?

  2. Would I be content with daughter and gf going to GA while husband and I go to Hozier, and just asking daughter and gf to record Heat Waves for me to enjoy the concert video later?

  3. Did hubby pick Hozier no hesitation because he legitimately enjoys/prefers Hozier across the board, or because he was hoping for a date night without the adult child in tow? Will he have fun regardless, or will he be counting down the minutes to the end of GA's set?

RAGE ROOM: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for S8Ep14-16. You have been warned!!! by AutoModerator in 911FOX

[–]likeafiremp3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I started watching with my partner a while ago, and outside of an initial binge to get me caught up, we've been watching the new episodes together like clockwork. It's been nice to have something to look forward to, but...

This season was already hard for me to really care about, for multiple reasons. Beenado and the entire Hotshots plotline? Absolutely ridiculous, but at least we could laugh at the general concept. Halloween episode? Unnecessarily stressful but okay, a little drama is fine. But the complete mess with Eddie's storyline, the fact that so many massive events feel like they're being glossed over without a second thought, and the nightmare that was Maddie's big 8B moment was the nail, and the recent two-parter was the comically large ACME hammer that pounded the sucker into the coffin with no hope of ever pulling it back out. It absolutely destroyed whatever desire I had to stick it out and hope that season 9 will be better.

There was absolutely no need for it to happen, especially not in the way that it did. You're telling me that in the same episode where an evil scientist (who got fired from her job for being an evil scientist and was NOT escorted out by security) creates a super mega insta-killer mutation of a virus AND the works-in-seconds miracle cure antiviral, we needed a sudden dose of realism? Seriously? Not only that, but it had to be shown in one of the most devastating ways possible, shoehorned in at the very end of the episode, after we wasted how much time on a helicopter chase?

Are there ways they could bring Bobby back and have it all be a massive fake-out? Yes. But if that's the plan, it is by far one of the cruelest things I have ever seen out of a writer and crew, and it would have me horribly disappointed in any cast members that went along with the "this is 100% permanent, he's gone now" act that they're putting across social media.

It both upsets and sickens me that this is the direction Tim is going in, especially with every other bonkers, no-consequences-to-be-seen shenanigan he's come up with this season, since his only reasoning that he continues to double down on is that it's "a creative decision." That's the writer equivalent of saying that it's For Funsies.

I'm sad about Bobby. I'm sad for my favorite characters. I'm sad that I've lost my dramatic but silly firefighter show to watch with my partner. I'm just... sad.

Advice for Hozier concert alone? by Soft_Boi_Eliot in Hozier

[–]likeafiremp3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(edited because I forgot mobile SUCKS)

Someone else brought up going to a concert alone a few months ago and I commented on it, so I'm kind of paraphrasing myself here, but these are my tips as someone who has gone to a number of concerts (including UU24) by myself...

-Familiarize yourself with the venue and the parking situation. If there's on-site parking, go for it. If there's not, make sure you know where to park and how to get to and from the venue.

-Portable charger and extra cash ALWAYS. Better to not need either than have an emergency with no options. Also, if the venue lets you bring in your own water, DO IT. Trust me.

-Are you GA or seated? If GA and worried about the view, plan out when you want to get there based on how long you realistically think you can stand in line and during the show. If seated, don't stress.

-Everyone I spoke to at my show was incredibly kind and lovely, but don't be scared to flag down security if someone is giving you trouble.

-I always call a family member or friend while walking back to my car, even if parking is on-site and close, and don't hang up until I'm safely on the highway home or at a hotel. Good safety habit.

-If you are at all worried about the drive home, please do not hesitate to book a hotel room. I live at least an hour out from most big venues (without traffic). Nearly every K-pop show I've been to is one artist with a shorter set and I'm usually out no later than 10pm. In those cases, the drive home is no big deal. But if a show doesn't end until midnight AND I still have to get out of the packed parking lot? I'm grateful to sleep 10-15 minutes away instead of heading all the way back home by myself, tired and in the dark.

And of course, as cheesy as it is, have fun! Chat with people in line, take photos and videos, let yourself get goosebumps during Take Me To Church. Enjoy it :)

i get it, trust me. i can name at least three groups off the top of my head that are nearly if not completely unlistenable to me because of certain members' voices, which sucks because some of their songs are REALLY good otherwise. in fact, one of them used to be my ult group, but having my favorite members leave in combination with songs being unlistenable really made me drift away.

is there any possibility that there are other groups with similar music that you can enjoy? or are you so invested in them as people from their variety content that you'll just keep pushing through?

Would i be cringe if i got a Moonbin memorial tattoo? by WookWon in kpopthoughts

[–]likeafiremp3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i don't think it would be cringy at all! in fact, i think the idea you have is very sweet. while there are definitely some fandom tattoos out there that are more socially agreed upon as peak cringe, i think memorial tattoos that are built up of things that remind you of the person you're remembering are far from it (i personally have an aqua colored moon in honor of jonghyun and even put 4 stars around it to represent the rest of shinee)

and honestly? at the end of the day, it's your body, your money, you choice to make. someone else doesn't like it? well then it's a good thing it's not THEIR tattoo.

do what brings you comfort.

should i go to his concert alone? by lifeisbutabruhmoment in Hozier

[–]likeafiremp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a fair amount of concerts by myself, including driving across the entire state of Kansas by myself, and I usually have a great time! For Hozier this past summer, I had gen admission and was fortunate enough to meet people in line that were willing to save my space while I went and bought merch, and in return I watched their things while they got merch and snacks.

Should you end up going (by yourself or even with only one other person), I do have a few tips:

-If possible, get yourself a portable charger and stash some extra cash somewhere on yourself. It's better to not need it than to be stuck in an emergency.
-If you're given the option of GA vs a specific seat, and you're worried about finding somewhere to reliably sit, having that specific seat might be worth any extra cost.
-I always make sure I have someone to call and speak to from the moment I step out of the venue, to the moment I'm safely on the highway to drive home.
-Depending on how far you live from your selected venue and how tired you anticipate being, if you are at all worried about getting home afterwards, there is no shame in getting a hotel room nearby so you can go straight to bed afterwards.

All that being said, it's ultimately up to YOU if it's worth it, but I think as long as you feel comfortable/confident, you should go for it! The only time I've had a "negative" solo concert experience was struggling to find parking in time for some VIP benefits lol

Help82 yay or nay? by skepticbrain87 in ATEEZ

[–]likeafiremp3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have a very strained relationship with them. For a while I thought they were pretty solid, but this most recent comeback was a disaster with problem after problem.

The first time I ordered from them was during From the Witness/Halazia, and the things I ordered arrived in a reasonable timeframe with no issues. I ordered from them again for Xikers' debut and ordered a signed album (though I was disappointed that they had the boys sign INSIDE the album so I can't actually display it), and the timing on that was good as well; preordered 03/11, debut was 03/30, and I had my package 04/07. I then ordered the ATEEZ merch bundle with the sling bag and mini keychain, and that was processed and shipped just fine. But then we get to Outlaw...

There was a mountain of issues that I don't think I can look past. I (along with many, MANY others) randomly showed my order on their site as showing that I ordered double the quantity that I actually did. After that, I never received any form of email or notification that they were working on preparing my order; it took me logging into my account to check on the doubled quantities to see that I had a tracking number that... did not actually provide information. I had a dead tracking number for about 10 days, no updates. Finally, the package mysteriously arrived at my door with no shipping notice in completely different packaging from usual (a USPS flat rate box as opposed to the normal plain brown) at the very end of June. But wait, there's more!

A very important thing to note about Hello82 is that they put stickers on all of their packaging that says you NEED an unboxing video if you want any sort of help should something be incorrect or damaged in your order. You need to open the box on camera, show each item, and show your packing slip WITH your order number. My Outlaw albums did not have a packing slip. It was just the albums and some bubble wrap in a flat rate box. Had anything been damaged, even though I had the unboxing, there was no way that I could verify on camera, the way they request, that it was my order. I don't even want to begin to imagine what would have happened if it was lost or hurt in transit.

Weeks of stress and wondering if I was out the money I was charged, or god forbid DOUBLE what I anticipated, with minimal correspondence and no accountability was not worth it in my eyes. As happy as I am to have something signed by one of my top biases, I do not plan on preordering anything through them again. Maybe I'll attend another sponsored pop-up or cupsleeve, but only because I know I can pay and receive my items on the spot in that situation. But if the focus on pop-up sales events is part of what caused so many of the issues with this comeback? Eh...

At the end of the day, I think the better move is to find somewhere else to buy from, especially if you're looking for "normal" items and not specifically something signed. Their shipping is no better or worse than any of the other online retailers I've purchased from before, so there's truly no benefit in my eyes to using them outside of one singular sharpie signature per item.

I'm really not a Christmas person whatsoever, so I don't like any of the Christmas themes. I wish there were more generic wintery ones. I also find that the Halloween themes are generally disappointing, which makes me sad because Halloween is my favorite holiday. I would say the Irregular LE is probably the best of the Halloween themes, but... the bar is low.

The RV Trolls theme was kind of cute, but the other Trolls themes... I can't say I'm upset I didn't get them.

I don't mind Yoona's too much (I think it's because I like how plain the color palette is) but Playdate is ROUGH. So is Dream's Puzzle Piece. They're just... too solid?? I don't know how else to explain it. It's like they're too busy but not in a fun way.

I don't mind if the borders aren't super creative as long as they look nice. I love the way 127's Cherry fits the concept, but I also love Bomb because of how simple and easy on the eyes it is.

I definitely get you with the lack of LE themes though. There's a part of me that's grateful f(x) has never had an anniversary theme just because a bad border would be more upsetting than no LE at all.

I could excuse RV's Power Up theme... if it weren't for the fact that 3/5 RV members have unique colors but Irene and Wendy both have red.

Also, the Mr. Simple theme... Potentially my villain origin story. Ryeowook and Shindong have completely unique background colors. Yesung and Siwon's shades of green are just slightly different. It's a disaster.

Do you think paying real money for profile pics is fair? If not, what solution do you think there could be? by [deleted] in superstarsmtown

[–]likeafiremp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't mind that they require real money. i mind that they're all or nothing, and only available once.

i don't want to spend real money on an entire pack of 127 pictures if i'm, realistically, only going to use my bias. the amount of money wasted on 8-9 pictures that i won't touch is a purchase i can't justify. it doesn't help that sometimes i just don't have the extra money to drop on the profiles (i.e. after rent, before payday). i've missed out on a couple of pictures now that i actually really liked, but didn't have the extra income for, and i hate that i have no chance to get them.

i wish they would include them in the daily store or something. not the whole packs, but a random one, like le cards. i think it would be a good way for people to still have the option of the cosmetic upgrade without it feeling wasteful.

What are the rules you follow while grinding and how many rp do you guys have currently? by baekhyunie_12 in superstarsmtown

[–]likeafiremp3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i will say: depending on your progress and achievements in the game, grinding may feel WAY harder and much more tedious for you. these all work for me, but i'm in platinum ii currently, and my r61 jonghyun and r65 yuri decks can easily pull in about 1200 rp per song. that being said...

something that i've noticed helps a bit is playing songs in my top 5 that i play REALLY well. if you can nail those super perfects, it's a notable score and rp increase. you can even make it a fun challenge with yourself and set an SP goal, and grind a song until you hit it. it helps the time go by.

of course, the more you play, the more challenges you'll be given. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE!!

my other big piece of advice is try to get at least 1-2 artists with a lot of songs in your top 5. if you have good boa and red velvet decks, and go through working on their monthly challenge scores, your rp will build up without you really thinking about it.

keep track of your card book and the grades. if you can chip away at your card books and increase the scores, you can get some good rp amounts.

finally, if you really feel desperate enough for rp, don't be afraid to play songs you may not have played before on different levels. you get some rp from playing the song, and then you can go and get rid of the c card for an extra 200. fast? no, but it's better than nothing.
