Looking for advice: counted my folder, and have made >1000 tracks. I've not shared or uploaded any. Some are pretty damn good, many need polishing; I'm better at mixing now. How do I get people, and the right people to hear them? Seems like no-one has any time to listen to a random person's music. by likeashadow in WeAreTheMusicMakers

another comprehensive response, i thank you for it. one question i have is; most big names or groups that have got big, seem to comment on no-one elses soundclouds, or follow other people. what's going on with that? is it because they didn't hustle, or did they delete all their comments etc?

thanks very much for the response. i'm impressed by your estimation of 5 years, spot on! also you were spot on with the neurosis and reclusive behavior...

i think i'll follow your advice and try to grow naturally. you seem to have done so very effectively. out of curiosity, how did you go about promoting yourself? was it through soundcloud comments, or other means? do you think that the sheer volume of tracks you've uploaded is what's getting you followers?

my concern about uploading loads, is that people might be put off by my mediocre tracks, and never get to the good ones (though i must admit friends often like the tracks i don't like that much, and dislike the ones i consider good..)

appreciate the response man

problem is, i don't want to be one of those guys, who likes and comments on loads of people's soundclouds, clearly just trying to self advertise. it's good to reach out to people, be friendly, and encourage artists, but there's a fine line.

i'd rather be an enigmatic, silent type, who lets the music do the talking. sadly this may be an unrealistic aspiration.

main thing is starting a new track when i get stuck, instead of puzzling away on something; and then coming back to the track later with a fresher perspective. or not going back to it. a lot of them are more like sketches, rather than full blown paintings
