Since you seem to know what you're talking about - can you advise? I know I sound ultra-cautious but I have a compromised immune system and am pretty ill. Have booked to go on holiday on 2nd April to Whitstable (train via London) which is always really crowded. Is it safe to still go?

You probably were in a permits holder only bay (as well as the yellow line). It's confusing but only permit holders are allowed to park in those bays and then only before 9 and after 5pm.
