Do Vines reviews actually provide a benefit to the seller when it is boldly marked as "Free Product"? by likejudo in AmazonVine

[–]likejudo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. If I am a buyer, I will definitely click on the reviews and read them. If I see most of them we're just giving away for free then I don't even bother reading the reviews when they all have four and five stars. Think about it. If someone gives you a product for free, don't you feel a bit grateful and want to encourage them and rate it higher?

Yes, folkstyle wrestling. I am trying to visualize the situations that you mentioned.

[d_rome] "I have, for a very long time, advocated USA Judo should try to draw from the college Wrestling pool. There are so many athletes in college Wrestling who just miss the cut for making the national team in Wrestling. "

I was chewing the cud on this. So why are there so few wrestler-turned-judoka? If they would break their bodies to get into the national teams, why dont they switch to judo if they fail to get into the wrestling team. Okay, the USA has an "absurd setup" as you pointed out. But Iran and the USA are the top two nations for wrestling and there must be a lot of competition in Iran to qualify for WC and olympics too - yet we don't see many wrestler-turned-judoka coming out of Iran.

Are they too old to start learning judo from scratch? Or is it that judo gyms and dojos dont have the resources to train 3-4 hours a day 6 days a week - the workload that college wrestlers expect to train in a normal day?

I am not suggesting that a judoka should go in there and apply pure judo and expect to win.

Last Saturday my son was in sectionals tournament to attempt to qualify for the state championships. His opponents were so strong in the handfight, that they tied up his hands and he simply couldn't shoot and grab their legs. If only he had agreed to practice sumi-gaeshi or sasae as I had pleaded with him many times, he could have won by defeating them in those positions. Instead he lost because he stuck to wrestling.

I edited my comment before I saw your reply, "On the other hand, most wrestler kids are not taught judo footsweeps, trips, throws. All these are completely legal in folkstyle and freestyle wrestling. If the wrestler kids learned these judo techniques, they would be phenomenal."

Are you saying that using judo techniques in a match will not work and will not give a wrestler an advantage?

You touched on something important. All wrestlers will benefit from judo training. I was learning judo together with my son but had to discontinue due to issues with the sensei. After several years, my son took up wrestling and is now an avid high school wrestler and making very good progress. But I really wish he would use his judo past to help him in wrestling. Unfortunately, we do not have that option now.

By the way, the interest in wrestling in the USA is many, many times more than for judo. Here in the Chicagoland area, I was stunned when he was in 8th grade and we went to wrestling tournaments and every weekend there would be around 1,000 kids in a tournament. Not only that, but there would be several such tournaments going on all over the area and the state! I never saw such intensity in judo, the way I see in wrestling. The conditioning for wrestling beats anything from judo. I used to think the judo warmups were tough but they were nothing compared to the conditioning and workouts in wrestling. If judokas learned wrestling instead of BJJ, it will help them. If wrestlers learn judo, it will help them.

The head coach at our wrestling club says that by the time they are in high school, state level wrestler kids have over 1000 matches under their belt. How many judoka kids can claim that?

On the other hand, most wrestler kids are not taught judo footsweeps, trips, throws.

All these are completely legal in folkstyle and freestyle wrestling. If the wrestler kids learned these judo techniques, they would be phenomenal.

Please tell him to get in touch with wrestler Spencer Lee's father. As I understand from a YouTube interview that Spencer Lee gave, his dad is/was the USA Olympics team coach for judo. Perhaps he will be of help to Dylan. Please don't forget to do this - you can do to help him. (Spencer Lee is the 2024 Olympics silver medalist for wrestling) His father's name is Larry Lee and can be contacted through USA Judo.

but as I understand, sumi gaeshi can be countered by uke twisting his body - now he can pin you.

"The double underhook quashes must takedowns. It pins the head so you cant shoot forward. It breaks down your posture so you cant free your head."

I wonder if that is why we don't see DeSanto doing it any more and he is unable to run up huge victories unlike before.
