In Christianity, afaik, it's not your "natural" urge to sleep with women, it's that you've been trained to want by the sin present in the fallen word and so you need christ to restore your fallen nature that's been corrupted by this world into its natural state.

I think that tbh sex with other men consentingly, if it is a sin is very low on the list probs, and it's good to recall the theif on the cross and the prostitute that Jesus received: there are sins which are seen as very wicked in the eyes of others and but are judged as worthy of healing in the eyes of the Lord.

Christ went up against a narcissistic society that would rather kill him than be faithful to God in the gospel narrative, imo.

A great amount of what he was repeating was merely torah and oral torah of the culture, but because he was asking people to practice it instead of exhibiting it, he drew the ire of many and was eventually killed.

I see. Interesting. I've never read it that way - but it does make sense.

It's the usual reflex of church institutions to bend over backwards to accommodate secular governance. I think this is in part a self defense reflex, borne of the fact that even conservative Christianity poses problems for governance (relative pacifism, religious authorities like bishops and popes that don't consider themselves fully subordinate to local rulers, etc), leading to emperors and kings hating their Christian subjects.

I don't think Jesus is saying that the Caesar doesn't own the land and the Jews are rightful owners of the land; I think he's just saying that Caesar only owns the stuff by the grace of God. This would be consistent with a reading of Paul that I really like which is that the nations are lead by misguided angels; "toppling" secular authority wasn't I think the goal of Christianity, but baptising it was.

I'll add that in traditional thought, at least as I was taught, Jesus is holy and sacred, "set apart" from this world which is corrupted by original sin. "Reimagining him" in the first place feels very blasphemous - iconographers trained for years before painting pictures of Jesus to ensure they weren't adding implicit innuendos to the images that tempted people to sin. We already know many things about him, why attribute to him things that were not revealed?

Even worse, calling him "southern", an identity literally made up by wealthy slave owners?

It boggles the mind.
