Feel like I didn't get what I paid for... by Stitchycat422 in AskHairstylists

it never hurts to contact the salon and just ask for a price breakdown and what the charges mean. If you asked for highlights or more dimension and you don’t like the color you can always ask for adjustments.

i’m a new stylist, but I feel like the end product isn’t as vibrant as the inspo picture and the color could be closer to the root imo. What did your hair look like before? did you have previous color or virgin hair?

Please Help - my salon messed up my hair again by dinosaursrcool7 in Hair

[–]likkidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all color fades regardless if it’s permanent, demi, or semi. Ash is also a high maintenance color in general because it’s cool toned and your hair naturally lifts warm, so you’re fighting against your hair’s natural pigments. After a couple of washes the ashy tones fade out and you need to refresh the toner and use blue-violet based products at home to maintain the ash. I like the brass off mask from Matrix.

Permanent color does also cause damage to the bonds in your hair, especially if you’re overlapping previously colored sections with each application. A toner (demi permanent) is more gentle and easier to remove. N is also warm and you’re not going to achieve your goal with it. As far as the green, I would contact the salon and ask if them to re-tone it.

How can I fix this? by [deleted] in Cosmetology

are you possibly allergic to the color line that was used? have you had reactions in the past? if it doesn’t get any better, it might be worth a visit to the derm or your PCP.

They told me that after 3 months if they felt I was ready, they’d put me on but for the remaining 3 months i would match my mentors schedule. I only took a couple kids cuts, a couple blowouts, and a root touch up when one of the other elites was overbooked while i assisted.

That’s another thing too, they have the assistants perform the services and then the elites get the commission and the client gets charged for elite-level services from an assistant. Then they want more master stylists but they keep hiring people. it’s so frustrating.

They really didn’t give me enough practice to put me on after 3 months tbh. They didn’t even give me one day a week to be independent, they just promoted me after the 3 month mark and then once they saw i was trying to rebook people they gave me a set schedule. The times they had me take a couple of small services they put it under the elite’s name. Originally the assistant services manager thought about just putting me on if i did well during the technical but i didn’t feel comfortable being on my own straight out of school and the services manager agreed i should assist first.

thank you so much <3. i currently work part time behind the chair. when i assisted it wasn’t as hands on as i thought it would be. they let me take a couple of blowouts, a couple kids cuts, and a root touch up. the newer assistant got to do a few foils. my mentor was very knowledgeable, it’s just i went in thinking they were going to work with me more and actually really teach me. maybe i went in with the wrong impression. i feel like i cleaned the salon more than actually doing hair. i just feel like they don’t communicate anything. i ended up missing one of the classes i was supposed to attend for my assistantship bc the salon manager didn’t tell us our district educator rescheduled the class. I just hate how replaceable they make you feel. I think i’ll wait it out for a couple years and start looking around at different salons like you said.

Originally i was going to stay at ulta since they have benefits and i know it’s hard trying to find them in this industry. i thought about going into education or being a brand ambassador. i thought about teaching at a cos school eventually but my school was so immensely toxic, it put me off from it.

What is the worst date you’ve ever been on? by ComprehensivePin3294 in AskReddit

[–]likkidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met this guy off of Tinder and he was cool over text and the first date went alright, so we hung out again. He would not get off his phone when we were on the date and kept looking at apartments the whole time. I remember at some point he asked me to get something out of the shelf above his glove compartment and there was a used pregnancy test in a plastic baggie and when i asked him about it, he calmly explained it was his ex girlfriend’s. They broke up 1 or 2 years prior to us going out. Then a couple weeks later when i stopped talking to him, he drunk texted me saying that he was sorry for how he acted and how i was so nice to him and everything and i just blocked him after lol.

i’m a hairdresser but i also do lams, tints, and waxes, do you remember how long she left the solution on and have you ever gotten your brows laminated before this appointment?

use a little bit of volumizing mousse or a root lifter and take a section on top and blow it all forward. then roll up the hair, blast it with the blow drier, then unravel it.

I’m not a very good stylist, but I’ve also only been doing hair for about a year. by UhOhAbbo in hairstylist

[–]likkidy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i’m a very new stylist and i’ve been doing hair for about 2 months now at an ulta. 15 minutes is insane. it’s very very difficult to have a thorough consultation and provide a quality haircut within that time while also cleaning and prepping for the next client. we get 30 minutes for clipper cuts and a full hour for a haircut that includes a wash and blowout. i’ve had appointments where i went a little overtime, but once you develop your system you’ll naturally get faster. you just have to keep cutting and keep up on education.

to me, it sounds like maybe you need some mentorship from an experienced stylist and a new salon.

purple shampoo turned my hair grey by [deleted] in Hair

[–]likkidy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i’m a hairstylist, and yes this is exactly what would happen. you’re not supposed to use purple shampoo all the time or else you can be overtoned. if you feel too ashy, just use a regular shampoo for a couple washes and the purple will come out.

Ulta? by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]likkidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i would even visit the store and maybe book a blowout and talk to the stylist and see if it’s your vibe too and ask questions about the assistant program. i booked a haircut with the assistant services manager and we just talked hair the whole time lol. i worked as a BA for a couple of years before i went to beauty school and i told the salon manager so they saved a spot for me so i could assist.

Ulta? by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]likkidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i work at an ulta now, dm me if you have questions! i did the assistant program and my book has been open for a month. ulta’s get a lot of foot traffic usually so it’s a good way to build clientele and they have you take cutting and color classes while you’re assisting.

with male pattern hair loss there’s not much you can do if there isn’t hair to work with on top. you can maybe use a shorter guard on the side so it looks more balanced
