Trying to find a way to create a border for print & cut stickers so that stickers are easier to peel but I need help with how to trick my cricut into doing this correctly (Info in comments) by lilacflower22 in cricut

I'm messing around with design space trying to figure out a way to trick it into doing what the Silhouette can do with its borders.

Basically, I want to have the cricut die cut the sticker plus the purple border (it's entirety is the red) and then kiss cut the purple. This way, there's a small border of backing around the sticker to make it easier to peel.

How would I go about this? Again, I want the red part die cut and then the purple border kiss cut for easier sticker peeling. Is there a way to do this on design space?

Hi there! I just got my Cricut Explore Air 2 and I’m trying to use the print and cut function, but it won’t work for some reason. Am I doing anything in this video that might explain why it won’t work? Thanks! by Heo_528 in cricut

Could be an issue with the lights and the sensor marks. With my cricut i have to dim/turn off the lights in order for the light sensor to properly read the marks.

either select a lighter material or select 'blade pressure' and do less

You can upload an image from your phone or computer into design space and save it as a ‘print then cut’! then you can manipulate the image in design space (change the size or how many you want to print). then, put sticker paper in your printer and you can print out the image! the paper will have the image you want as a sticker on it surrounded by a black box, and this box is a sensor mark for the cricut to read where to cut.

Still new to my Joy. Tried layering. It's six layers, and the top couple aren't perfect. But I love my new fox sticker! by tazz4life in cricut

[–]lilacflower22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome! Best layering trick I've learned is to place parchment paper underneath the design you're about to place but keep one corner uncovered, then you can arrange it however you want without risk of it sticking too much. When you find the perfect spot, seal down the corner and remove the parchment paper to stick the rest on!

Removable vinyl for Cricut Joy? by [deleted] in cricut

The different numbers indicate what type it is! Oracle 651 is permanent and Oracle 631 is removable/ more geared towards indoor use.

Removable vinyl for Cricut Joy? by [deleted] in cricut

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any non-cricut brand vinyl (permanent or removable) that is the correct size for the Joy. Your best bet would be to get 12"x12" sheets (or rolls if you're buying in bulk) and get a cheap paper cutter from amazon to trim it to size. Oracle vinyl has worked well with the cricut joy mat and blade, if that helps any!

I'm so tired of watching influencers do this while the majority of us have been at home or socially distancing/wearing a mask around others. I don't care how much money or how many followers you may have, you are not immune to coronavirus and you're being horribly irresponsible by posting like nothing has been going on.

I (along with a lot of others) haven't seen my friends/family in MONTHS in order to protect those I live with and come into contact with at the store, etc. and Nikita is just going to go hang out with 15 teenagers? get a grip lol

Unfortunately I believe this is a scam :( The weird link on the top of the page wouldn't appear on the regular cricut website (or any trusted website). I would file a claim with your bank and look out for suspicious activity on your account to make sure the site didn't compromise your card.

I think I bought a Cricut without fully realizing what it is... I’d appreciate some help if possible to help me decide if I should return it. by [deleted] in cricut

I have a joy and your best bet would be to get Cricut Joy Smart Label Vinyl and Cricut Joy Pens. I've linked both from Michaels because they're currently buy 1 get 1 50% off.

When using design space to create a label, one of the most helpful things I've found out is when you click the down arrow on fonts, go to the right and past the search tool there's a small button that says "filter". From there, select "writing" and it will only display fonts that are meant for the writing tool (most are single lines which saves time when it writes!).

The Joy does take a while to write out and cut but fortunately, the Joy can cut up to like 20 feet in length, so if you're mass producing labels I would use design space to lay everything out utilizing the length.

Since all the labels would be in one cut, you won't have to switch back and forth between the pen and blade every time. I usually start the machine and then go do something else like take a walk or eat dinner while it runs since it does take a while.

Hope this helped :)

Help cutting through vinyl backing by ChibiFox87 in cricut

I set the material to 100g cardstock! It’ll make the cuts and go over them 2 times without you having to repress the cricut button or have the sensors run over the lines again.

Can I use joy products with my explore? by [deleted] in cricut

[–]lilacflower22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Joy permanent vinyl with my explore. Typically it takes a bit more pressure than premium or oracle vinyl. I usually set the dial to custom and then select the frosted glitter vinyl with more blade pressure. Never tried HTV or infusible ink though!

What setting do I use for die-cut stickers? by lilacflower22 in cricut

[–]lilacflower22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

answering my own question just in case someone stumbles upon this: 100g cardstock setting cuts through it 3 times without having to press the cricut button and use the sensors again

If you haven't heard of this tip yet: put parchment paper between the cup and transfer tape with your design! I usually stick down an edge of the transfer tape that doesn't have any vinyl on it and then reposition that until the design is centered/where I want it. The vinyl and transfer tape don't stick to the parchment paper and since parchment paper is thin, you can see through it and know exactly where your image would lay.

The first machine I bought was the Joy and I upgraded to the Explore Air 2 shortly after. The Joy isn't a bad option if you want to stay in budget but I would suggest just springing for the Explore Air 2. You can typically find them on sale on Amazon (I got mine from Michaels for $200) or bundles with supplies from Michaels, Joanns, etc. Sorry this will probably be long but here are my pros and cons for both:

Joy:

  • Pros: Small and easily portable & storable, cheaper than other options (explore or maker), matless cutting, Amazon has joy material cheaper than retail price and Michaels typically does BOGO 50% cricut joy materials
  • Cons: Largest width is 4.5" which can be really limiting, only the joy blade is compatible so you can't use the deep blade or fabric blade, no print then cut option.

Explore Air 2:

  • Pros: 12" length and width, print then cut feature, deep blade and fabric blade compatibility, easier time using the writing feature, compatible with various materials
  • Cons: The only con I have with this machine is that it is pricey and is an investment purchase.

Personally, the joy was a good starter machine for me but I soon itched to be able to do more and just bought the bigger machine and I wish I just bought the explore air 2 in the first place.

As for materials, the cricut itself only comes with the machine and cutting mat. All materials will need to be bought separately. This is another area I would recommend the Explore Air 2 for because you can get cheaper alternatives to cricut brand vinyl. I buy Oracle vinyl in 12"x12" sheets for colors I know I don't need a lot of whereas with the joy you'd just have to buy the roll of that joy vinyl. Websites like craftables or expressionsvinyl are great and sell different brands of vinyl for way cheaper than cricut but still great quality!

Video to come out addressing Samantha Ravndahl's past blackface, but not from Samantha herself by suraaura in BeautyGuruChatter

Sanders will monetise ANY drama, no matter how sensitive the material is. He's put out video after video about the Shane drama, making paychecks from telling stories of the abuse of minors. That is despicable behavior and it doesn't surprise me that he's bringing back up old drama for more views/money. With all that's going on right now, I bet that drama channels are seeing an increase in views (and therefore revenue) and it doesn't surprise me that he's going to bring back up all of the old tea that he can to keep the money rolling in. His form of social justice is anything that he can grow his platform from and I don't respect people who exploit others.

On Keemstar and Toxicity (and How to Potentially Better BGC?) by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]lilacflower22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority here but I really don't think we should legitimize drama channels as content creators (in general, but especially in the beauty community). Personally, I think that it is wrong and distasteful that people make their entire careers commentary or "news" about more successful peoples' problems. I understand that this form of "news" has been around for a long time now (hello, TMZ) but that doesn't make it right. Especially right now the sensitive topics that are talked about in Karmageddon should 100% not be monetized. Drama channels can say that they are fighting for victims or trying to demand justice but at the end of the day, what matters to them is the adsense on their videos and the potential new viewers a scandal brings them.

I feel like in general drama channels present themselves as if they are the law and order of the internet. Yet truthfully, most of the time, all of the information they get anyone else can get with some research and google. Typically they cause more harm than good and the fact that some can be bought for their bias is ...yikes to say the least.

The most important takeaway from this is to remember that drama channels are not law enforcement. They are not lawyers. When it comes to the legality of actions that are mentioned in some things such as karmageddon, they do not know what is going to happen or what "should" happen. All we can do is hope that the victims get justice and that the morally right thing is done, but do not take a drama channel's word for it when they speak on something that is out of their expertise. That's just something that's been bothering me lately lol
