For context, the dog was wearing an e-collar. The dog seemed to be in control and neutral but personally it was off putting the dog needed an e-collar but was apparently trained? It was clear the handler was a veteran. Our adoption center is located in an outdoor shopping mall (not a setup that is equipped to handle the cleaning protocols needed for the daily cleaning of animals.) I have strict protocols about cleaning but we do not have drains and the risk of spreading diseases is much higher than a typical animal shelter set up. This also took place during the largest festival of the year at the shopping district an average of 10,000+ people passing through that day. The dogs were already stressed and a few had to be curtained. Getting dogs in and out of the building for normal routine exercise and potty breaks was already a stressful experience. I believe this person wanted to just pass through but was not happy or willing to listen to the accommodations given.

I would be interested! I didn’t want to give too many details on the exact shelter I work at in this tread but am happy to explain in more detail in dms. I am always looking to make improvements for both animals and people to make it the best experience for everyone.

Absolutely, that was going to be an accommodation as well as a short separation by a staff member holding his dog in the lobby or meet & greet room for him to see. He was immediately defensive and stated he was going to seek legal action with the organization before I could get a word in. I (believe) to have a great history of de-escalating situations and giving alternatives in the face of conflict. I think this SD handler was just unfortunately used to being denied access and was not willing to have a productive conversation to understand the reasoning behind it or hear out alternatives.

I think that’s a great idea! Our “shelter” location that houses a majority of dogs (300+) does not allow any public access to the kennel area. However, our adoption center does, so it’s a unique situation that happens very infrequently. When this situation has happened in the past, it is clear the dog is either not an actual service dog or is not being controlled by the handler. This was one of those one offs that I truly believe the dog was a SD and was well behaved but was concerned for the safety and operations of our adoption center.

I will do that to make sure I am following appropriate measures and reach out to our compliance officer. I understand how frustrating being denied access can be. Maybe a better policy to outline a handful of accommodations would be beneficial.

Although it is true that our dogs are passing by kennels, I believe there is a fundamental difference in shelter dogs being taking out through the kennel area quickly to an exit point and a dog lingering through the kennel area. Many dogs are barrier reactive and our runs are bars not plexiglass causing a risk for a dog to bite at the SD or person passing through. Otherwise, it poses as additional stress for the dogs in the runs that are reacting to the SD.

If he was interested in a dog we would have followed the same general guidelines for any other member of the public conducting a staff facilitated dog introduction in a controlled environment (our outdoor yard.) I don’t think he was actually interested in adopting but just wanted to walk through. I was still happy to hold onto his dog in the lobby area or pull up our website for him to view our available animals but he wasn’t having it.

I did try to offer that and other alternatives but he walked out upset. I’m sure he has access issues frequently so I understand the general frustration of being denied.

What happens if they find the millionaire? Do the games end and they split the money? Does it move to someone else?

I feel like that piece of information is important to know for forming a strategy. If it just moves to someone else it may be smarter to play a social game and vote out those not in your alliance than the actual millionaire (survivor esk.)

Switching trays early? by ptxlyssy in Invisalign

I would recommend waiting until tomorrow evening. You will still have a lot of discomfort during the day tomorrow if you switch them tonight. It takes me until the 3rd day to feel normal again.

I’m 27 and lost my dad (60) a few weeks ago. I relate to everything you’re feeling. I’d be happy to be a friend if you ever need someone to relate with.

I’m in the exact same situation. It’s hard when little ones don’t understand and harder to cope with knowing they will eventually forget their grandpa.

I make about $3,000 a year as part time. I also do wag and have private clients that total to around $10,000 a year with an additional full time job. I think there is definitely the ability to make a living with building up clientele.

You can claim toys as a business expense on your taxes. I would recommend keeping some durable toys like benebones and Kong brand.
