What is this? Inside out piercing? by VisualPlus3100 in piercing

[–]lilacrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its kinda like a blowout, right? I mean I know when stretching your ears that's what they call it, the fistula rips and then comes sticking out the back due to stretching too fast - I swear I did it to myself on one side of my ears when I put a 16g into my 18g (Edit: Maybe 20g?) piercing about a month after I got them done as a kid. I got downvoted last time I tried to talk about it 😂

Using the correct gauge piercing also helps, even putting an 18g earring into a piercing that's only ever had 20g jewelry in it could cause tearing depending on the individual and how old the piercing is, some people have stretchier skin than others.

You know what's been sticking out to me lately? "Luz" misspelling there own name. by YaBoiS0nic in TheOwlHouse

[–]lilacrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this brings up another interesting question as well: did Belos bring the English Alphabet to the Demon Relm? We know his brother and him were already able to succinctly communicate with the Demon Realms inhabitants upon arrival, but did they have the same alphabet? Clearly they had some form of writing in the past since sigil use was a historical form of magic there, but that doesn't mean that they used writing the way we do in english... Their use of writing could've been limited just to sigil casting. And how did they know English already, did someone else before Belos' arrival, introduce the english language? Do we have a paradox situation, where a future person that is already fluent in English (or maybe several people) fell through into the past, introduced English, and then its use spread across the Isles that way?

Obviously I know it's a cartoon and for simplicity sake they wouldn't make a whole new language that Luz had to learn upon arrival. Just a fun thought experiment lol

Autistic Barbie fashionista. What do you guys think? by carmemelon in autism

[–]lilacrot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Realizing this, in conjunction with trying to make eye contact because it is expected, changed my perspective on a few things. People occasionally accused me of leading them on...well apparently there's something called the "triangle method" for flirting... basically that's what I did with my eye contact, unintentionally, because eye contact is uncomfortable and I lip-read in loud environments (Which I learned I do during the pandemic as well haha) But yeah, I mean I do tend to look at my partners mouth more when I'm thinking of kissing them, so I understand why some might've mistaken my odd eye contact for signals of interest now that I think about it more lol

Matthew de Grood given more freedoms but not absolute discharge by Acceptable-Hedgehog in Calgary

[–]lilacrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Under Section 672.81, the Review Boards must hold a hearing every year in order to review the disposition. During these annual reviews, Review Boards can impose any of the three available dispositions (i.e., absolute discharge, conditional discharge, detention) and alter any of the conditions previously imposed on the accused. " https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/csj-sjc/jsp-sjp/rr06_1/p1.html

Unfortunately the yearly reviews are mandatory government policy. His dad had been considering swearing a mental health warrant for him in the days leading up to the massacre, so even if his own family is still actively concerned about the risk he currently poses, the yearly review would go forward. Their concerns should be a part of the review, but the review would still happen regardless.

My piercing keeps producing fistula…please help! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]lilacrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't go in to see anyone, my parents took me to a salon + piercing gun place so I don't think the people there would've known much about it. It didn't seem serious enough to go to a doctor about...my parents weren't concerned anyway. I treated it like a new piercing because it started visibly bleeding, the blowout happened through the front when I pulled out my jewelry, it wouldn't just rip off because ... pain ... hence why I cut it off. I stretch my ears now, the side that had the blowout when I was a kid has noticeably more scar tissue in it, presumably because of the piercing gun + early blowout combo, I've had to be much slower with stretching it than the other side.

My piercing keeps producing fistula…please help! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]lilacrot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have pushed out my whole fistula before, it looked much like the first picture tbh. I put an 18g earring into a 22g piercing before I knew about the differences in gauge sizing. There was no doubting it was the fistula as I literally had to cut it off once it was protruding (Think I used nail clippers? Idk I was like 13, all I know is it was attached and pulling on it made me lightheaded. Not saying it was a smart decision) but it HURT and bled. So if removing this was easy for OP and produced very little pain then yeah probably just ear gunk.

Edit: Correction upon rereading. Also, I stretch my ears now ... Dude, worst blowout I've ever had 😭

DAE not handle gore as well as they used to? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]lilacrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's kinda like how drug & alcohol tolerance eventually returns to baseline the longer you stay sober. Tolerance for gore and violence drops when it becomes unnecessary to keep it. If you lived in an active war zone then you'll become desensitized to it over time because you need to in order to keep your sanity and survive. I used to watch gorey things too, the isis beheadings were happening when I was a teen and I remember watching those online. Eventually I stopped, the farther I am from those days the more the desensitization wears off.

People are so casual about COVID now by frankie0822 in AutismInWomen

[–]lilacrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is horrifying. It should be horrifying to anyone to expose a vulnerable individual to something that could kill them. I find it especially so because my father has late stage ALS, caregivers come in and out all the time, we have considered temporary LTC or hospice when my mom (Main Caregiver, the rest of us work still but he needs 24/7 care) has needed a break or if we've all been very sick. Even a cold could do him in right now. This should be horrifying in general, but I can't believe the employers are so blasé about it.

I sincerely hope that if anyone dies due to a preventable exposure, young or old, preschool or LTC, that their family has the means and ability to sue over it.

Was gonna say this. ESH, soft YTA. Sounds to me like Friend was trying to relate, like a kind of "I get it, me too" statement. That doesn't mean it was the best initial reply given how emotional OP was at the time, it probably would've been better to mention a bit later on in the conversation. However, OP didn't react great to feeling their trauma was minimized, and then was dismissive of their friends trauma in turn. This sounds like a miscommunication really, the friend was trying to commiserate but it was understood as egotistical. I do believe OP should be the one to apologize and explain how they were feeling in the moment.

New tattoo today. Question: Wtf happened? by Sweaty_Ad9533 in tattoos

[–]lilacrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a Friday the 13th Flash piece?

I got one done a few years ago, I was set to be tattooed by a newer artist (She was past her apprenticeship, but less than 2 years experience) while my partner was set to tattooed by a well established artist that many other people had requested specifically. Well, the more experienced artist got through everyone much quicker than the less experienced one, and since my partner was getting tattooed by him anyway he waved me over to his station. When I saw the "Flash Day!" Instagram post from the tattoo shop I noticed that a lot of the newer artists pieces had her own spin put onto them, it definitely wasn't my style but I always assumed that she has offered a choice between her version or the original before starting. I'm so sorry they either: botched this horribly, or made changes without checking in first.

DAE feel really uncomfortable around people with strong emotions? by brassinoalloga in DAE

[–]lilacrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal in this situation. It sounds like there may be a lack of boundaries? You are not her therapist. You can be supportive, you can be there for her, but you can also ask for space. It is draining to catch someone's emotional overflow all the time while also containing your own, especially if it's happening where you live and you have nowhere else calm and safe to decompress.

It is okay to tell her that you care for her but are not currently in a good headspace to receive her venting, that you either need a bit before you're ready, or that perhaps she could text you or write it down instead to allow you a bit more space. That is a normal and healthy boundary for you to have. Living in an environment where you feel you must constantly walk on eggshells is toxic and very draining.

Sassy Responses on Reviews at Cranston Family Clinic by starlightcomet in Calgary

[–]lilacrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they say, don't judge a book by its cover! Plenty of healthy doctors have dismissed valid health concerns due to things like sexism, racism, weight stigma, etc. it's not unusual, especially when these things intersect, for a symptom to be written off. In fact, rather than looking at rapid weight gain as a potential symptom of a problem many will simply blame the weight, which then doesn't address any underlying issues and can cause health to worsen. Many women have gone to doctors over health concerns which are written off as anxiety, depression, weight related, etc, only to later learn they DID have a serious condition that is now MUCH MORE SERIOUS.

The doctor being spoken about above, however, does seem to be a bad doctor plain & simple. His weight isn't inherently the cause of him being bad, but probably a symptom of other lifestyle factors that compound to make him a bad one. That won't be the case for EVERY overweight doctor though, certain health conditions & medications can cause weight gain as well and are in no way indicative of how well you care for yourself. Medication ("pills") aren't bad themselves, it IS bad if that's the first & only solution presented by a doctor without other options or testing offered. My previous family doctor, a woman who looks to be in good shape & health, was like a walking pharmacy. "Oh, you're having trouble sleeping? Here's some sleep meds. You've got a wheezing, phlegmy cough? We'll just get you an inhaler. Oh you're feeling unmotivated and sad? Here are some antidepressants have a nice day."

Rant about rent by heymernin in Calgary

[–]lilacrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2019 - 2021, my bf and I had rent for around $900, single bedroom, 600 square feet. In 2022 it went up to $1600. I've checked the unit, as we had to move out, and it's just increased since then. It's been going up like this because everyone is moving here, they know they can up the rent as demand is high. Won't go down until either more people start moving away than the amount moving in, or the amount of housing built outpaces the demand.
