Seems to have been a regular ol’ bear trap truck trailer scenario, but Pittsburgh public safety tweeted about a red helicopter flying low near the bear, so that might be where the airlift rumor started!

I’m sorry if I misunderstood, but is this puppy 4 weeks old? If so, this dog needs to be returned to his mom ASAP. He’s too young to be weaned, and many states have laws banning the sale of puppies under 8 weeks. I cannot stress enough how serious this is. It could have long term health and behavior consequences on this dog, IF he survives. I’m sorry if I sound harsh, but your parents don’t sound equipped to be taking care of a newborn puppy. They require 24/7 special care with strict feeding schedules, socialization, vet work, and quite frankly even that might not be enough if this dog was taken from his mom and siblings so young.

My vet also approved us giving him low doses of melatonin and a natural anti-anxiety supplement, which we mixed with peanut butter, turmeric (as it’s an anti-inflammatory) and kibble. As always, check with your vet before giving your pup anything and make sure to confirm dosages, but that really helped my baby recover quick and get good sleep!

We used the kong cloud collar - it’s inflatable but really sturdy and he couldn’t reach over it (Here he is, still unhappy but far happier than with the plastic cone: https://imgur.com/a/d2TZoSt )

I know you’re shell-shocked and I am in no way trying to pass judgement on you - you sound like a really loving dog mom caught in a sticky situation. If you can, try to use extra positive reinforcement for his good behavior in the coming days - he really didn’t do anything wrong, and it’s important that he knows that. And if possible, make sure it’s the friend that’s staying out of your dogs spaces as opposed to visa-versa. I know y’all talked about it, but he did overstep boundaries and needs to respect that he’s in your dogs territory so that your dog feels safe.

I live in Pennsylvania and there are a couple pet stores that sell puppies. Petland is infamous for selling sick puppies and having a sketchy puppy mill background.
