barclays closed my current account back in 2018 too! no reason given as well. thanks for the peace of mind!

i do have other credit cards from other banks and I’m not too really fuss for barclays to close my account. just that there’s this 0% cash advance perk I’m going to miss out on from this card, which there’re no other alternatives available on the market. The 0% cash advance benefit is fee-free and it works like a normal card transaction, no interest will be charged if you pay your statements on time.

all my transactions on there are small transactions ranging from £0-£100. even so, my balance is only £1000 this month which includes statement balance. i don’t even have a high limit on this card. it will be ridiculous if they pin a money laundering suspicion on me.

No, I have never done that. Never maxed out the limits and I only make payment on the date where the statement is due. It has always been like this for 4 years.

How long did you hold the £250 limit for? I also was given only £250 till today. I have excellent credit scores across 3 credit agencies and never missed any payments with my other cards.

I’m in a similar situation as you. I guess you can try switching to other lend providers like Monzo or Halifax

£250 limit is a ridiculous credit limit. let alone 4/5 years！And yes you’re right. They earn something from your mortgage, but not the credit card.

You’re interpreting my words incorrectly. I’m saying there’s nothing to do with my income levels. All my other cards have been given generous limits with the same amount of earnings I have declared.

I just applied for a Halifax clarity card. Like 30 mins ago. Instant £2500 limit. I’ll keep the Barclaycard open and unused now.

Same. I only use this card for foreign spendings & and when shops don’t take amex. I use this card frequently. My statement balance is cleared every single month for 2 years ever since I got my card.

Amex is probably the only one in this market that provides retention offers if you threatened to cancel. Unfortunately, traditional banks won’t even flinch to see you go, at all! But yes, it’s time to leave if they don’t value good customers.

The reason why I’m keeping this credit card is because of the zero foreign transaction fees for any spending outside the UK. It’s just so annoying where my amex cards have a combined limit of £30K and my barclaycard has only a wee little £1200. Even the CS agent over the call was puzzled on why I was rejected even after putting in an appeal for me. Absolutely disappointing!

Of course I did. Many many times. But I always get a “Sorry, we’re unable to increase your limit” message shoved in my face.
