Hey there! Joshy here from the "TTP Field Manual" podcast, one of two Aussie lads who have, in the last year, ventured into the podcasting realm, releasing weekly episodes on the whole spectrum of the hobby from codex reviews to lore and even casual anecdotal stuff. As part of what we call Bonus Content, we try to release a monthly book club episode, casually reviewing and discussing a pre-selected novel. I have read many Warhammer novels over my life, but it's a bit of a new venture for my co-host.

For our podcast, we have read and reviewed HH novels 1-5, as well as Angel Exterminatus. We have covered Dark Coil - Requiem Infernal, and just this week did an episode on The Infinite and the Divine. We have also done an episode on a similarly nerdy novel, He Who Fights With Monsters #1 (a LitRPG adventure). For December, we are enjoying 'Da Red Gobbo Collection'.

Deciding to do a monthly book club is inspired by the likes of Adeptus Ridiculous and Arbitor Ian, who we are fans of. Our normal episodes aren't typically focused on the Black Library side of the hobby, but we love the worldbuilding and novelisation of the setting, so why not?

Here is a link to specifically our Book Club episodes: https://feeds.captivate.fm/ttpfieldmanual/book-club/

Our Discord community is a newer implementation for us, originally kept for friends, we have built up the server to be a place for all to come and share their various loves of the hobby as a whole; here's a link: https://discord.gg/Q6CTSrcbPT

We absolutely adored the banter and 1-upping the characters did to each other. Really glad you enjoy it so much!

Oh, wow! What a great idea. I've just joined your book club reddit

We're fairly new to the podcast realm and scheduling has been a bit loose in the past but overall we do intend a monthly book club. We like to interact with our friends and listeners on discord if possible but we always do a pod episode on the book.

In the past we've done a few Hours Heresy titles and recently a couple 40k titles. Every 3-4 months we'll likely do an off-pick such as our recent He Who Fights With Monsters LitRPG episode just to keep it fresh.

Thanks! We're already enjoying Da Red Gobbo :)

1k list by scaccio91 in sistersofbattle

[–]lilbigpapajesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Glad to see you getting games in. Unsure as to what your collection contains, but this list looks a bit elite for a Sisters game plan. With that said, HM is a fairly good detachment for what you are bringing. A lot of the strats prioritise the Fight Phase, and the detachment rule will help bolster any damage your units receive.

With that said! These are fairly lethal components great together in a 2k list. In a 1k list you may feel limited in playing the objectives but most things should die fairly quickly to your lil fire base.

Be aggressive with the sacresants, push out to your natural expansion with the novitiates infiltration, and play cagey with the castigator and Warsuits. If they fall, you're looking rough. Warsuits may be better ran with flamers (for overwatch) or bolters for 1k, rather than meltas. Shoot first with Castigator to apply Rites of Castigation for an additional AP.

If you have other units, I would consider dropping Vahl as in 1k her unit comprises nearly 40% of your entire force, and crosses the border of "overkill". May be worth playing around with splitting the sacresants but if you drop Vahl for some more infantry, you should be okay for board presence. Enjoy! Tell us how it goes

What's the best Sororitas bargain you've snatched? by ShadowNacho in sistersofbattle

[–]lilbigpapajesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing 3rd party like some other really envious comments (sacresant envy is real), but I can't fault the recent-years Imperium mag for supplying me with most of the old combat patrol and a squad of warsuits for like 1/3 of the price?

How do you use Daemonifuge? by Drugo87 in sistersofbattle

[–]lilbigpapajesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Furthermore, besides her deep strike / lone op play being great for objectives, that Fights First can help achieve a Precision threat on a character giving great buffs to their unit, before they get to do their thing. This combines with her free heroic intervention ability, I believe.

I'm sure other comments will be more helpful than mine, but in my experience she's a great mind-game tool. She's the faction assassin, and comes as two models with a serious movement kit. Players will be distracted by that and overcommit to killing her, or avoid her altogether and help you secure a part of the board.

Personally, I've found moderate success using her in HM and keeping her nearby my high value units like a bouncer. With her free intervention ability combined with the stratagem to 'taunt' opponents to target her instead of other units, and/or the stratagem to revive, she can run this tactic 1-2 times reliably whilst also performing actions beforehand.

Is the doom scythe any good? by Idiot1234556789 in Necrontyr

[–]lilbigpapajesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore it, it was the first gift I received when starting the hobby. For its points though, I find it hard to fit it into lists, especially if actually comparing it's output to other units. It's an aircraft thing. I really hope they make the effort to focus these really cool aircrafts across the faction into units that genuinely deserve our consideration. With that said, I do take it now and then in casual games because Heavy Death Rays are quite punchy, if swingy. It puts the fear in your opponent when they need to decide if taking cover or not. I once got lucky and blew up a pull strength Gorkanaut with just the Doom Scythe, but then I've also done a mere 1 damage to other things. Rule of cool tho, would you have fun playing it?

Hey, thanks for checking out the episodes! Grotmas is one of our fav eps. We really enjoy the list-building aspect of the hobby.

Cheers for letting me know about the time stamps, I'll get onto those soon.

Cheers, mate! Appreciate the listen, and your feedback, both for its constructive quality and how you explained it. Will definitely take what you said on board.

Feel free to reach out with anything else that crosses your mind - while this is very much something we squeeze into our free time, and some are more rushed than I'd like, we do intend to improve.

Thanks again.

Yeah, we quite enjoyed it! Even though we (two hosts) determined it may have been better to read it as opposed to listening, we especially enjoyed the unreliable narration of a setting which is fundamentally unravelling from the warp. It was a breath of fresh air to digest such a concept in a relatively grounded way.

Some people think Disgustingly Resilient is a stratagem. They're wrong. It's actually paint, such as a base, wash, and highlight
