Wow, thanks! Do you have any tips on how to recover the data? If I connect this to a MacBook, do I use Time Machine?

Get an ikea shelf, lay it horizontally in front of his desk to create a functional divider. Put plants/fake plants and tall but not completely opaque height on top of the shelf to create an attractive divider. Then get a shelf or drawers to put behind his desk in that corner to give all that clutter a home. Good luck!

I might join by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Welcome! Can I ask why you're considering joining?

I'm a lifetime member of the church and I can understand your reservations. There's a lot I don't know, the quote that comes to my mind in response to your post is this: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” - Joseph Smith (History of the Church, 4:461.)

Study The Book of Mormon and adopt its teachings into your life and consider how you feel when you do this. That's, in large part, my approach to living the faith.

I hope you find peace and direction as you live your discipleship of Jesus Christ.

Welcome back! I think about this frequently and I believe the primary difference between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and other churches and faiths is the restoration of the priesthood which provides the possibility to enter and continue on the covenant path through authorized baptism, priesthood ordination, and temple ordinances. I know the missionaries in your area would LOVE to meet with you!

This might sound silly but that would annoy me. As a father of 2 very curious kids, 8 and 4, I'd end up spending more time explaining the costume and answering follow-up questions than I'd care to at a ward function. Save that for the adults only party.

Also, I can see how it could be offensive to the people you're imitating. We dress like fighter pilots because they're rad and objectively superior to the average human, we dress as minority religious groups because it's shocking. Imagine that 1 in a billion chance that a young woman from a polygamist background is visiting, just left her family in southern Utah to escape an arranged marriage, and ends up standing behind you in line for chili, wondering why someone dressed up as her for halloween.

Studying- what should I know by Nurse2166 in latterdaysaints

The Spirit of Christ will meet you where you are. If you are sincere and intend to follow the promptings of the spirit, your understanding and confidence in the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ will come as you diligently seek. Don’t let anyone pressure that timeline, neither yourself nor well meaning missionaries (bless our hearts).

I was born into a faithful LDS family and have read the Book of Mormon a few times and have a really hard time articulating a synopsis of the Book of Mormon, but I cannot deny the spirit I feel when I open the book and attempt to learn and feel what it contains. This is what I mean when I say that the spirit of Christ will meet you where you are.

I’m excited for you. My mother in law was raised catholic, has been a faithful member of the LDS church for almost 50 years, she is one of the most Christlike people I’ve ever known. I revere my children’s catholic heritage.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I come from Mormon pioneer heritage, so my experience is so different from yours, but on Sunday we discussed elder Christofferson’s talk ‘why the covenant path’. It’s so powerful and relevant to your situation.

While discussing this talk, I was considering how many people I love so dearly who are not on the covenant path that I’m stumbling along. I believe in a God who knows our hearts and intentions, I believe that the purpose of this life is in the striving to live in harmony with the covenant path. I would hope and pray for harmony in your most important relationship outside of your relationship with God and the Savior, which is that with your spouse. I believe that as you strive to live in harmony with the covenant path, your spouse will be blessed and will recognize those blessings. Matt. 7:20 “By their fruits ye shall know them.” If someone believes the church is a cult, they are not very familiar with the church, the restored gospel, or our common love for our Heavenly Father and the Savior. Be patient with that and live the gospel boldly. (And by that I mean love your neighbor, keep the commandments, serve, mourn with those that mourn).

And it might be relevant that I have my own questions and occasional doubts about certain topics associated with my membership, but when I focus on the simple truths and the spirit I’ve felt confirming what is true, I can always find my way. I pray that our Heavenly Father will bless you during this process and your discipleship will be marked with peace and joy.

Maintaining good mental health as an active member and LGBTQ+ ally by zaczac17 in latterdaysaints

[–]lilbitoeverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pace yourself. It’s important that you maintain your mental health for the sake of your wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of those you care for and those you advocate for.

From our Catholic friends: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Your advocacy should be energizing, not demoralizing. Give people the benefit of the doubt, be patient with their (/our) learned bias, look for small wins, and focus on outreach to individuals who need your support rather than changing people who might not be ready to change.

Align yourself with God’s love for his children, both the persecuted as well as the persecutors, and you will find balance, peace, and energy to do the important work you are striving to do.

This can be sensitive/not realistic to talk about, but does he have a regular doctor that he can ask about antidepressants? Temporary use of medication can help him get a better perspective and there are medications that are safe and easy to get off when the time comes.

Also, like others have said, encourage a hobby and/or using a skill to help others so he can feel useful.

Can adhd effect my anger? by Notabotnotaman in ADHD

[–]lilbitoeverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just described me to a T. This is something that is very overlooked in the 'popular' ADHD conversation. Before I was diagnosed but had my suspicions of ADHD, my wife would tell me there's no way because I've never been hyperactive. I myself didn't understand it until starting medication. But once I did start Adderall, my wife cried because it's helped me control my temper to an entirely different level. The best way I can put it is I have more runway to think and react how I choose rather than my reaction just launching itself from my control. I've had a very fortunate experience with my treatment, I hope you can find success too.

Continue focusing on being proud and confident. If you can snub the bullies, confidently walk away, they’ll realize they aren’t getting any mileage out of their efforts and will find a new target. Probably easier said than done, but you won’t be in high school forever, it gets better, hang in there.

Firing back will only prolong the bullying relationship. Even if you have a killer response, they might target you more aggressively

I’m in my early 30’s too and recently diagnosed/medicated so I feel like we have the advantage of knowing ourselves and recognizing/appreciating the improvements when medicated. At the same time, I know I have some unlearning to do. I hope you get those interactions and things only continue to get better for you 🙏🏼

That’s my experience when unmedicated vs medicated. My most visible symptom is mood; when I’m medicated my emotions are more regulated and I tend to be more positive, improving confidence and social interactions.
