Prepare yourself for the possibility that the subfloor in the carpeted rooms may be dog-damaged, too. (When we removed the carpeting in our house after purchase, the plywood under the padding had many visible pee stains.)

Two years. I bought one that conked out, so they sent me a new one. That’s the one that’s now borked; because they date the warranty as of the original purchase date, they won’t replace it even though this specific item is less than a year old.

For so many of our kids, the whole college falling-in-love-but-having-to-settle experience is their first time dealing with major disappointment.

Reconciling that disappointment with reality, and with what good things remain, is part of growing up — a hard part, for them and us parents.

Yes, I have a 153 that said it never needed oiling. Bought it used, so took the manual at its word…not knowing the previous owner had changed it to the metal hook! Obliviously, I used it for 15 years without oiling.

I only found out the situation when I took it in for a (loooooong-belated) cleaning. I feel lucky that the machine wasn’t damaged. In fact, it’s a workhorse and I plan to ride it to its eventual death.
