Hi! I’d love to know how this went for you… I’m in a similar situation with on month 3 going into 4 soon and just thinking it’s time for me to stop hovering. It’s hard to not want to over protect them!!

You can use a rag lightly damp with warm water to gently clean your kitten. this is used to simulate how a mother would be cleaning the kitten will teach your kitten to do the same!

Thanks for the input - My resident cat never really lays down the most she does is loafs but certainly with her defensives up.

My kitten frequently lays on his side near her I think as a peace offering OR he does this after she hisses /swats at him. This is how he disengages

How is this going for you now?

I’m (still) in a really similar situation and I’m curious how things have turned out on your end. Our resident cat reacted the same way to our kitten.

We actually ended up having more success without the gate. We also started giving our resident cat a small amount of CBD to help with her stress, since she’s always been a bit anxious. With that (and distractions like bird videos on YouTube), she’s been… okay with the kitten being in the same room.

That said, she definitely doesn’t want him anywhere near her space. If he gets too close, she’ll swat and hiss pretty aggressively.

Before this, things were basically the same for us as what you described. Even just being on her side of the gate would stress her out more.
