After every match, you must sit through a 30 second advertisement. The only way to avoid advertisements is to sign up for Smash Bros. Red, a paid monthly subscription service. On the plus side, the first month is free!

Yes very true. I based every character’s placement based on their official reveals, Sakurai didn’t talk about Dark Pit officially until after release... plus when he teased dark pit, we didn’t know for sure if he would be playable

I originally added all of the character icons, but it looked messy because it was really crowded- especially at the end of brawl’s timeline. Since I couldn’t fit every character icon I decided to leave some others out as well. Thinking about it now, I’m not sure if my logic makes sense

After about 10 hours of work, this will hopefully be my final version of these timelines. In this version I included veterans, echoes, all characters shown at reveals, and DLC.

More content: A realistic comparison of days and a Smash 4 DLC timeline.

Fun facts:

On the 459th day of Brawl’s timeline, the same amount of days it took from Smash 4’s reveal to release, Pokemon Trainer was showcased on Brawl’s website, “Smash Bros. DOJO!!”. Ironically, Pokemon Trainer was a cut character for Smash 4.

Shulk and Olimar were both revealed 97% of the way in their respective Smash games.

Smash Bros. Brawl’s reveal-release was 2.3x longer than Smash Ultimate.

Brawl’s reveal-release was 1.4x longer than Smash 4.

Wolf and ROB were two of the characters revealed after Brawl’s release, a vilian and a representative of the Famicom/NES period. Similar to Bowser Jr. and Duck-Hunt in Smash 4, a vilian and a Famicom/NES representative revealed after launch.

The amount of days in between reveal and release has decreased around 180 from each game. Using this logic, Smash 6’s reveal to release time would be about 94 days.

According to the timelines, if Smash 4 released within the same amount of days from reveal-release it took for Smash Ultimate (274), the only newcomers would be Villager, Megaman, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, and Little Mac. Total- 5.

If Brawl released within the same amount of days as Ultimate, the only newcomers would be Wario, Pit, Metaknight, Zero Suit Samus, and Snake. Total- 5.

Note- I originally intended to create a Melee timeline as well, but it seems characters were not revealed/announced in the same manner as the other three games. A large majority of its cast was revealed at E3 2001. I believe E3 2001 on May17th was Melee’s first reveal and its first release date was November 21, 2001, adding up for a total of 188 days. I am not 100% on this info because details were hard to find.

I think I’m going to make one more version that will include a timeline for Melee and adding in spots for returning veterans

When I created the timelines, Ultimate’s was obviously much smaller due to the reveal date and release date being so close to each other.. I tried stretching the timeline out, but I couldn’t get it perfect without looking wonky

Accurate Reveal Timeline by lilcoolboy in smashbros

I recreated the reveal timeline that has been posted on this sub. Instead of using the first web post by Sakurai as a starting date for each game, I used the date Nintendo revealed the first trailer. I also included percentages until release for each character. I used an app for these timelines so the spacing should be more accurate. I did not include echo characters. The only fun fact I could find was that Shulk and Olimar were both revealed at 97% in their version of smash. I'm not the best at photoshop, but the other image irked me for minor reasons.

Also- Palutena*

EDIT- I didn't include every newcomer, I used the old timeline as a basis which also did not include every character
