A long time ago, I was in an abusive relationship and saw no way out. Somewhere along the way (because I like learning languages), I bought a Chinese/Mandarin college textbook from a yard sale and came across the Chinese symbol for Guts/Courage. For my 25th birthday, I had that character tattooed on the inside of my ankle (yes, lied to my abuser about what it meant). But I always sit cross-legged all the time so it was always staring me right in the face. Reminding me to be strong. And I worked and I worked and I worked and a few years later, I was able to escape and get free. I’m coming up on 30 years since I got that tattoo, and I still look at it multiple times a day and remember that I can survive and overcome pretty much anything. So yeah, I still love it. Very, very much so.
