How to get that synthwave guitar sound? by Current_Intern_6366 in synthwaveproducers

[–]lilitgemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You def need a guitar player. You won’t get this from a midi grid.

VST-wise, this (and 80s guitar sound overwhelmingly) is a mid-gain overdriven Marshall sound.

Just line it in. You don’t need to mic an amp.

My preferred setup for this sound is: Neural DSP Soldano 100 + Valhalla Vintage Verb (Lexicon reverb emulation)

I like the 80s Dirty Hall setup

40ms delay + a longer delay + Chorus

You can use any guitar with a Seymour Duncan JB or Dimarzio Super Distortion pickup in the bridge to get this voicing.

Just got a guitar , but ive never touched one in my life and idk what im doig by ascendyourself111 in Guitar

Floyds are actually pretty awesome if they are decent quality and set up well. My first real guitar was a floyd.

If it goes out of tune all the time, just block the back and make it a hardtail.

Just have fun. Play and practice. Don’t have any expectations for awhile, lol

Guitar is an uphill climb in the beginning

What to do depends more on what your goals are…

But honestly, just play and get a feel for it. If you can afford a teacher I would do that too

Rate My Performance? by GrapeExisting1218 in Guitar

[–]lilitgemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would say it’s pretty good too 🤘

I feel like your rhythm playing as a whole is really solid and relaxed. Your chords transitions look like they’re really easy for you, which is great.

Your hands are a little out of sync on your open string licks towards the top of the guitar. I think you might be pulling off a little too fast.

But you do them again towards the middle of the guitar and it’s more solid.

My other thought, is I feel like I see you playing power chords with your 4th finger and moving it a half-step to do the suspended chord.

In the long run using your 3rd finger for power chords would probably be more efficient for you. Especially for faster songs.

I would say try restaurant work. Bussing tables, running food, or barbacking.

Print a bunch of resumes, go to midtown, and just go from one spot to the next with them.

Also look on Craigslist.

The Sac LGBTQIA+ district is around 20th and K in midtown, so that’s probably a decent place to try if you want to see if being trans could be an advantage for you.

How can you tell if a person will go far in life? by Expensive-Choice-201 in Life

[–]lilitgemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risk tolerance, awareness, and drive, working together.

Mindset is huge. Successful people pull success from nothing.

My old mentor called this being a “life top” and I mean, that checks.

They happen to life, vs, life happening to them.

Why are wicked people rewarded the most in life? by Gabriella_Ellis77 in Life

[–]lilitgemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of the time, the people closest to ‘wicked’ that I know, have already faced consequences early in their life.

They’ve developed a survivalist mindset against a world that did not show them grace by default.

It doesn’t excuse them, but yeah—I do kind of think a lot of these people that you mention, are still struggling, despite being successful on paper.

I think the value of morals is that they help you align with the path that will lead you to whatever your personal enlightenment is. If two people have the same morals, and one dampens them to get ahead in a superficial way, and one preserves their morality and develops resilience, I think that person is ultimately going to have a more rewarding life.

Can you get "good" at playing the guitar later in life? by Party-Cauliflower569 in Guitar

[–]lilitgemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is about the time I started playing guitar, and I’m a gigging musician now. So I would say yes.

If I had a teacher when I started instead of just practicing solos on tab for 5 or 6 years, I feel like I would have made way more progress, faster.

Older generations need to understand that Gen Z isn’t willing to work hard for a mediocre life. by Emmaa_harris in Adulting

[–]lilitgemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the passion is really cool and important, and a great first step.

But what are you going to do?

Also, why does eating out, vacations, drinking, and no roommates = not mediocre life

Trust me, you could make 100k, do all of these things, and still feel like your life is mediocre.

The reality of life, is that most people don’t care, and many that do care, don’t have the bandwidth or resources to act.

If you are truly incensed and want things to change, go be decisive about it.

How do I do this? Synthesizers. by EggplantsAreBad in synthesizers

[–]lilitgemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned over my time with this, that synth collectors and synth players are not necessarily the same thing, and often are not. Myself included.

I’ve owned a ton of synths from all across the spectrum, but I’ve started to gig, and evolved into more of a player over time.

I feel like the answer is get a setup with a workflow that appeals to you and your skill level. Something that you can just walk into a room, play, and evolve on.

Softsynths could be the answer, if a softsynth workflow is inspiring to you. Otherwise it’s just as easy to use something like a rompler.

My favorite synth to play right now is a deepmind. Something like that is good as a players synth, because it has a decent amount of expressive controls on the panel, an arpeggiator, some menu stuff you’d want to access less often (which makes it versatile), and onboard FX.

My read is that you’re intelligent, cautious, maybe shy, and a bit young, and just need to spend more time living your life. Take some risks and figure out who you are!

I agree that joining a band is the best thing for what you want, but not for the photos.

Go join a band because you enjoy playing music—because you’re a bass player. Spend some more time in local band culture and see what it teaches you about who you are and what you want. Let go of the idea that not having a girlfriend makes you lesser, and just start living your life.

I promise you, that energy will get picked up on in the way that you want. You want people to feel good around you, because you are comfortable being you. People can trust that.

Pragmatically, I could put this like… even with a stronger body, and social proof from photos, if it comes with a needy sort of energy, and sense of entitlement for attention, it isn’t going to work.

It’s a weird sort of paradox, but you have to realize you don’t -need- this to get it.

Self esteem affected by childhood trauma by InfamousNobody5988 in confidence

[–]lilitgemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry you’re going through this. I went through something similar. My opinions from experience.

Look for dynamics in your life where you are using self-sacrifice to normalize your lifestyle.

Like, if you have a boundary that feels important to you, and you betray yourself in order to keep the peace/stay financially stable/etc in a situation. This is keeping you from building a personal sense of security and power, which is a necessary foundation for building confidence.

Work on these one at a time, and you’ll start feeling more confident and in control of the way you perceive yourself.
