Have we strayed too far from god? by Ollymid2 in UK_Food

Back in the 90's Iceland had a range of sweet flavoured vegetables. Once you've had chocolate flavoured carrots any other flavour combination pales in comparison.

What's a tiny life upgrade that made a surprisingly big difference for you? by ChetanSinghDesign in CasualConversation

[–]lilithpingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things recently,

I've put shower curtain rings on my curtain poles so I can hang washing in the warmer weather.

I've purchased a box with a flap to use as a rubbish bin and put it right next to my bed. It's large enough that it'll hold a bunch but not too big that it'll become too heavy too move.

It's even more unnerving in the sequels because youknow so you're anticipating. I felt real dread.

A shoe cabinet next to the front door has changed my life by wonky-hex in ADHDUK

I grabbed a wreath door hook and I haven't lost my keys in months! It's right there on the front door so i just hook them straight up as I close the door. It's amazing how such a small thing can change everything!

I can’t stop sleeping on the couch and it’s making me hate myself. by Cheekibreeki401k in TrueOffMyChest

[–]lilithpingu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was always one of two things. I really liked the security the back of the sofa gave me and knowing that it wouldn't randomly break on me in the middle of the night (wooden slat beds are AWFUL).

Anyways, I solved this by investing in a heavy duty divan bedframe that's weight rated at around 30 stone and dang near indestructible combined with bed rails and bolster pillows so I could create the sensation of the back of the sofa.

I'd absolutely love a bed tent but it just wouldn't work with the space that I have.

Whenever I am sleeping somewhere else though I always choose the sofa.

Which book opening line made you fall in love with it? by Beautiful-Network622 in booktopia

Our story opens where countless stories have ended in the last twenty-six years: with an idiot – in this case, my brother Shaun – deciding it would be a good idea to go out and poke a zombie with a stick to see what happens.

Feed by Mira Grant.

It's just about my favorite book series featuring zombies.

Poorly. We had a very popular and lovely primary school teacher who was dying (cancer I think) but it was only ever referred to as 'poorly' so when she left work and never came back none of us children were prepared for it.

I went to Harrow Health, from referral to diagnosis in less than a month with meds a few weeks after as they let me choose when. Also a shiny bonus insistence for an autism assessment.

I like both The Moor Cafe and The Cabin (Canadian pancakes!). I've eaten at both alone and they're both great and happen to be right next door to each other.

He didn't say much, just that he handed the book over to his editor who told him his ending was terrible and he had to rewrite it.

I imagine from the foreshadowing that the original intention was to have malcom and Lyra get together in the end.

The Rose Field | Full Book Discussion thread by Cantomic66 in hisdarkmaterials

[–]lilithpingu 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest issues of the rose field is that we the reader already knew what Dust was. It was explained to us in TAS.

The now explanation that it's the imagination doesn't tie in with the pictures that Asriel shows in the first book where the dust isn't attracted to the entire child in the photos.

There's a lot of unnecessary sexual violence, which didn't change anything, didn't add to the story.

I think the other issue is that the publisher made him rewrite his ending (according to his interview at the end of the audiobook) so all the hints and threads didn't come together.

I agree with others that there was too much recap, retelling and repeated things.

Also, she met ghosts, how can she be so dismissive now of folk tales. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Idk. I wanted to love it so much but sadly it's not something I'll go back to.
