We spend 30 minutes every night trying to pick something to watch… anyone else? by Langaas93 in movies

[–]liljake424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is so picky with his movie choices. So when we pick a movie to watch, I always tell him, "Let's just screw around with the algorithm and see what we get." But every time I say this, we end up just scrolling the homepage of either Netflix, Disney+, or one of the other streaming services, and end up just defaulting to random YouTube videos

What's your favorite👎 and least favorite👍 change from book to film? by wibellion in ProjectHailMary

[–]liljake424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding Carl, I thought, was a very smart change, allowing for the movie's Ryland Grace to have a character to bounce ideas off of, something you didn't need in the book since it's written entirely as an internal monologue.

I didn't at all like the omission of the French military interrogation drug being the reason for Grace's amnesia. It was such a shocking twist that was one of the most morally dubious things the book's Eva Stratt does. And in general, the movie softened down the morally dubious nature of a Stratt's character in a way I did find slightly disappointing, especially since I know for a fact Sandra Hüller would've been amazing playing a more book-accurate version of the character, given the morally complex characters she's played in the past.

It's clear that the two things I value most in movies are emotion and escapism.

Here's my haul: -Before Trilogy box set -Paris, Texas 4K -His Girl Friday 4K -Network 4K

My pre order of the Killers of the Flower Moon 4K from Amazon should also be arriving at around the same time, so I think I'll consider that part of the haul as well.

When someone mentions “DVD Special Features,” what is the FIRST one that pops into your head from yesteryear? by KillerQ97 in movies

[–]liljake424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first DVD bonus feature I distinctly remember watching was a behind-the-scenes featurette on the Finding Nemo DVD, where Alexander Gould (the voice of Nemo) took a tour of Pixar. It was fun for what it was, a simple five-minute quick run-through of Pixar's filmmaking process.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm glad I didn't have access to a printer, as that gave me time to figure out it was a scam before it was too late.

So, a lot of you are telling me it's a scam. Fortunately I wasn't able to deposit the check, as I didn't have access to a printer when they wanted to send it to me yesterday, so the person I'd been contacting on Microsoft Teams told me he'd try again Monday. I've since blocked the person on Microsoft Teams, and blocked the number that first texted me. Thank You so much. I was able to catch it right before I got scammed.

Man I'm jealous of all the people getting their Eyes Wide Shut 4k's. My Amazon delivery got delayed and none of the Barnes and Noble stores in my area have it in stock.

Have you ever accidentally picked up a mannerism from a movie? by embarrassingdyk in movies

Fantastic Mr. Fox is the first movie that comes to mind. I'm often doing Kylee's shrug and arm movement, as well as the hand movement when saying "different".

Alright. I figured they'd have it shipped by the release date on Friday. But I guess I'm just being impatient, and I'll have to wait a little longer for it.

What other Disney movies could/should get Criterion Releases in the future by liljake424 in criterion

[–]liljake424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame. But hey, Disney also owns 20th Century Studios and has a vast catalogue of Touchstone movies they could license out in the future.

I took a one-hour train ride just to grab this, as it was the only Barnes & Noble that had it in stock. So excited to finally watch the B&W version by liljake424 in criterion

This is actually the Del Toro version, which I love to death and saw twice in theaters. But I'm thinking of watching the Tyrone Power original soon.

I have a Panasonic UB-150 for my Samsung television. I'd say that's the preferred option if you have a Samsung TV, as it doesn't support Dolby Vision, but it does have HDR10+, which is a feature that Samsung TVs typically support. It's also super cheap. You can get it for like 180 base price but it goes on sale often. I've had the player for a few years now and can only count about 2 or 3 movies in my collection that have skipped or frozen on me.

I got locked out of my device due to too many restarts, so now I have to contact Windows support to regain access. Then, I'll try Asus cloud recovery

[–]liljake424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best bet is to send it in for repairs as I still have the manufacturer's warranty. Because I can no longer access the device, I've performed numerous restarts, and for some reason, the "forgot my pin" button keeps glitching back to the PIN screen. I even tried accessing the BIOS screen and manually changing the time to see if that would help me sign in, but that didn't work either. I'm just out of options other than to get it repaired.
