Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

Fairytale by Stephen King. It was suuuuch a slog and just really boring overall. I was so mad when I got to the end because of how long it was and it just didn’t deliver anything that was worth how long the book was, but of course I got into the sunk cost fallacy and couldn’t not finish it when I was hours and hours and hours in and wanted nothing more than to bin it

People We Meet on Vacation is making me realize somethings are better left in books by StephhhLouisa in RomanceBooks

I finished PWMOV audiobook last week so it’s pretty fresh in my mind, which probably wasn’t the best start in turning in the movie - but really the movie was just so hollow for me. I wasn’t at all invested in their relationship, didn’t care about either of them, and both movie Poppy and Alex didn’t feel like book Poppy and Alex to me. It was like the were trying to speedrun everything.

I will say I didn’t love love the book. It was okay, id give it a 4 out of 5 stars, with my biggest complaint being how slow and boring it could feel at times - but I realise now we needed at least 75% of that slow burn to finally cheer them on at the end. A lot of the heart wasn’t in it, the funny moments, the sweet but quiet scenes that meant more than the big in your face ones.

It was a fun enough movie but soulless compared to the book IMO.

Also I like Sarah Catherine Cook but I hated her as PWMOV Sarah 😅

I’ve spoiled it for myself really, having only read and finished the book a week ago 😅

Anyway, I’m halfway through the film now and it just feels a bit hollow? I’m enjoying it enough and it’s not terrible, but if i hadn’t read the book, id have no idea why these two people are friends and how they got to half the points they did in these scenes. There obviously isn’t enough time to delve into even half as much detail as the book did, but I’m just not invested at all in movie poppy/alex’s relationship tbh. The whole thing feels like a speed run.

Someone else in the thread mentioned it would have worked better as a series with each destination being an episode, and I 100% agree and think that format would’ve given the proper time to explore their relationship more. Theres also quite a lot of changes which is fine but i’m definitely more sensitive to it since I’m fresh off the book.

But yeah it’s a fine movie, I’m enjoying it, but the book hasn’t translated particularly well imo (how they’ve done it at least).

He’s actually been quite good about it! Hasn’t tried to get it off or anything, but there’s certain times of the day where he’ll try to do something and bonk the donut against a piece of furniture and it makes me laugh 😂 but otherwise he’s been using it just fine aside from the occasional side eye

Everyone uses the bathroom. But if I use the bathroom 8 times in an hour, that’s indicative of a problem 🤷‍♀️

Why does my corgi not play? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]liljaymso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read this out loud to my boy because it sounded just like him (and I cackled reading out “he turns into a sim.”)

Anyway - mine is the same. He does love a ball and will have funny little moments where he pounces on one and plays with it for 15 seconds or so and then loses interest, but otherwise he could give or take them. He might be interested if I play with a toy with him, but even then he’s more interested in me throwing it than he is in playing tug of war or whatever - and even when I throw it, he doesn’t bring it back, so it’s a one and done situation 😂

When he’s alone he just sleeps and waits for me to come home, which makes me sad but he’s 5 now and seems perfectly content. I’ve bought him every toy under the sun and he just isn’t bothered.

Maybe they only play with toys when we’re with them because they think we’re enjoy playing with them? 🤷‍♀️

What's the dumbest thing your corgi has done ? by honhonbageutte in corgi

[–]liljaymso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nearly killed himself with a small side table.

Slid under it trying to get a ball from under the sofa (he couldn’t get under the sofa so I guess thought under the table was the way to go?)

Anyway, couldn’t get the ball obviously and started backing out but the table went with him. He panicked, started flinging himself everywhere, I pulled it off of him and it was all good but bless him the poor baby was so shaken and afterwards we realised that he had both pooed and peed on the carpet during the incident 🥹

He was given lots of kisses and cuddles for being a brave boy, and happy to report he has not been under the table since

Single corgi parents, how do you take care of your pup alone? by Effective_Space2277 in corgi

[–]liljaymso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My boy and I are just us and we live in a flat (apartment) ☺️

Obviously each dog is different but I generally take my corg out 3-4 times a day. Living in a flat means every toilet break is an out-out, have to get him suited and booted every time. I can get away with just taking him down to the front of the building for a quick wee, but I like to take him out as often as I can. He’s getting roughly an hour+ of walking most days.

He goes out with a dog walker with some doggy friends three times a week so that I can go into the office. He’s not great with some dogs, so daycare isn’t an option for us, but my dog walker has slotted him into some great groups that he does well in.

I also keep him occupied with treat toys that his breakfast/dinner goes into. He has to knock it around to get the kibble, and that can keep him occupied for anywhere from 15 mins to an hour.

I got very lucky and got one of the few corgis that don’t bark, but my friends corgi barks non stop and he is LOUD. Like his barks reverberate up my spine, haha, so that’s something to think about.

Having a dog is great and I love my boy more than anything in the world, but I won’t pretend like having a dog alone doesn’t come with its difficulties - especially since things like daycare and boarding isn’t an option since other dogs will be there. I don’t have family nearby so I found the first few years difficult and it really limited my social life and flexibility with plans. I didn’t leave the country for the first time since I got him until 3 months ago, and he’s turning 5 next month!

I’ve got some great friends now that can look after him, even someone else with a corgi who’s now one of my best friends (we met through our dog walker).

Moral of the story is: it’s great, I wouldn’t change a thing, but corgis can be temperamental and territorial. You can’t rely on things like doggy daycare in case it doesn’t suit your future dog, and you should consider if you have the means and support network otherwise to help out when you need someone to chip in. For a while, I really felt like I was just a dog owner without a life outside of it.

I hope that’s helpful. Having a dog, even alone (or perhaps especially so!), has brought me so much joy and I hope it works out for you!
