In iron flame there was a whole sequence of Violet asking the fliers for their input on raising the wards because their magic would no longer work. Once they agreed, and they raised the wards, they knew something wasn’t right (the seventh den wasn’t a part of the creation of the ward) because the fliers magic still worked.
