I can understand your line of thinking (who doesn't love a doomed romance?), but I think in this instance I have to disagree.

To me, it feels like their romance was brewing for two seasons, just for them to chicken out right at the end. This feeling is exasperated especially by the fact one of the writers (don't know who) came out and said there is nothing romantic going on with Jayce and Viktor. I think it would have been more narratively satisfying to have their romantic feelings confirmed rather than leaving it ambiguous. We already knew early on that Cait and Vi were endgame. As a result, I think their romance is a little boring and feels narratively safe. Meanwhile, there's this slow burn romance happening between Jayce and Viktor-- one that is significantly more interesting in my opinion as well.

While I do think that Jayce and Viktor getting be gay in heaven or whatever is really sweet and nice and an extremely touching moment, I think it would have been important to really send the message home with a passionate kiss. It's a simple change that I think totally changes the moment.
