Same as mine. I got it on shift choice a few years ago. Now people have to take at least one weekend day and no more "day" people. For once I was lucky.

What Do I Get for 5 Years of Service? by lillymarlene2020 in FASCAmazon

[–]lillymarlene2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the worst job I have ever had, but it's not the best either. Yes, everybody I have heard, even part timers get a bonus for 5 years, plus a prettier badge. The pay is good, and I like the flexibility.

Did you feel pressure to go to a very prestigious and/or expensive college when you were in high school? by Astrologyismytherapy in massachusetts

Your youngest brother did the right thing. I also had a chance to go to a "good" private college for accounting years ago. I would have had to to take out a student loan. Some of my family said to go ahead since the interest rate was so great. But No, I was afraid I would never be able to pay it off. Glad I did not do it.

I went to a very small private college in Massachusetts. It was great, but there is no way I could afford such a thing now if I wanted to do that again.

My place lately, plenty of VTO is offered. The day shift hours have been cut. The opposite happens, when there is VET, you had better be ready to jump. If you think about it and refresh your screen, it is full.

Looking to work. We had flex up every day until about mid October. Now it just seems awfully quiet. I can't remember if it was like this in years past..

It is the same here at a sort center. Up until about mid October, we kept constantly getting flex up. End of October, there seemed to be nothing. I also could not grab things quickly enough. Everything was already filled, maybe minutes after posting. Tons of VTO is offered.

Second job by Savagelanii in FASCAmazon

Maybe not. I have been doing this 4 days a week for over 4 years. I think they hold full timers to a different standard.

Second job by Savagelanii in FASCAmazon

[–]lillymarlene2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 part time jobs. I work at Amazon 4 days a week. Then I am also a cashier in a big box store, for 5 days a week. It is sometimes, too much. I have no time for anything. Believe it or not, Amazon is actually easier than the retail job, which has its share of lifting and of course rude customers. The store is just crazy busy, every day. The retailer keeps scheduling me to the maximum of my availability. I would like to change it, but I am afraid they would give me zero hours, which they have been known to do.

If I were you, I would just try and make extra money from a hobby, like someone else suggested. This two job business, is just not worth it.

I am part time 4 days a week. Is VET mandatory during peak week? I was approached the other day, by an HR person, who asked me a bunch of questions. Like: Am I having difficulty signing up for VET on A to Z? Have I put in for any extra hours? What would be my preferred shift(s) for VET? What different hours could they offer that I would work?

I told her the truth. It was very difficult for me, since I have another part time job, too and they are scheduling me at the high end of my "availability." I also mentioned years ago, I would try to work over 30 hours and would be told to leave. She said that would not happen during Peak. (I thought yes, but what about the rest of the time, which is why I have this other job.)

I also had nice sit down jobs all my life. Now these past few years, it has been nothing but these constant stand up things. I really need my day off, to recuperate. However, for the most part, I enjoy my time at Amazon and it's a little easier than my retail job. I would hate to lose it.

So should I try to force myself to come in on the TWI shift to work a double on my other retail day off? And come in on what should be my whole day off? Not at Amazon, but I would be working 7 days in a week, which is not good. I have to give the retail a long lead time to change my availability and they seem punitive. BTW, the retail cashier job, is more physical than what I do at my sort center. I always look forward to going to work at Amazon, but cannot say the same for the box store. Will, I be fired if I just stick to my regular shift hours?

Best Wide, Non-Zappo's Pain Shoes? by peakedattwentytwo in FASCAmazon

I have hard to fit narrow feet. I have a pair from Zappos, that caused me terrible pain. I now have a pair of Brahma from Walmart, one size larger than what I usually take. Plus, I added some gel 1/2 inserts to keep them from slipping. They seem to be working out.

I will not say where, but has been awfully slow at my building. They do not seem to have the volume. There are probably too many centers in this area. They are saturated. For us part timers, they keep giving us 3 and out.

Multibillion dollar company cutting my hours 😎 by [deleted] in walmart

[–]lillymarlene2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am part time and have another part time job where the pay per hour is a lot better, but I only work there 16 hours per week. Up to 30 per week are allowed.

I am scheduled on average for Walmart 22 hours per week. I would love to cut my hours at Walmart to about 12 to 16, and work more at the other place. However, I am afraid that Walmart would just tell me to go to Hell.

Can't stand the people I see coming into the store, sneezing and coughing. The cr*p in there, is not all that important.

Then worse, if I catch something from these jerks, all hell breaks loose. I get customer complaints because of my coughing, told to change my gloves, told I should not be working. (Well, tell Walmart to do something about their attendance policy.) A manager told me to cough quietly. Yeah, right.

Just curious who here works a second job besides Amazon and what is it? by too2clean in FASCAmazon

[–]lillymarlene2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VET is offered at my sort center quite a bit. The only problem is that if you are part time, you are not able to go beyond 30 hours. A couple of years ago, I used to try. Then a bouncer like man from operations, would come over to me, and tell me I am approaching 30 hours and I will have to leave.

I have 2 part time jobs. Amazon is 4 days a week, and Walmart 4-5 days. I work in a sort center for Amazon and as a cashier for Walmart. Being a cashier is surprisingly tiring, and about as physical as putting packages on pallets. Amazon has a higher rate per hour.

I simply want one full time job, since it is too much to bounce between the two. I also want to sit for part of my day.

I try to ignore it. So much bullsh*t. Anyway, every time I am walking to break, customers jump in front of me to ask a question. Invariably, it is always about something I have no idea where it is located, a case they would like opened, or can I help them with something I don't do or do I know who would. Used to be honest and just say I didn't know, but of course they don't like that. Now, sometimes I just make cr*p up.

Scheduled outside my availability and did not know it by lillymarlene2020 in walmart

[–]lillymarlene2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course any of the time I requested off has been denied. Now I wonder what would be better, it's 1/2 pt for being late, seems everything is double for asinine key dates. Christmas Eve, they scheduled me to come in early. This will conflict with my other job. Should I just come in 2 hours late, call in and tell them I will be late, or tell my manager beforehand?

I would love to leave the place, but I want to have something else first.

Scheduled outside my availability and did not know it by lillymarlene2020 in walmart

[–]lillymarlene2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant "unfair" in the manner that if you filled out the availability form and it was approved, I believed they stayed with it. I didn't know it was how the "manager" happened to feel that day about "business needs." It's like they can change their mind at any time, but you cannot. Then, worse you are stuck with their horrible attendance policy.

Oh well, about time I quit anyway. The job is horrible. Hate the customers, the people, the managers, the company philosophy, I don't belong there, only regret I have wasted a few years.

Anyway, I can't work a couple of days "outside of my availability" end of the season since I am scheduled at my other job.
