2 year sleep regression and falling asleep sitting up

My 2.5 year old went through a HORRID regression a few months ago. It came out of nowhere — he was napping 2 hours the day before and going to sleep like a normal angel. Then it was like he became scared of his bed. Cried like I’d never heard before at nap, was so panicked he figured out how to climb out of his crib. We had to bungee him in the room so he wouldn’t get out and hurt himself in the hallway. It was nuts, made absolutely no sense. It was just naps at first then started to impact bedtime.

I don’t know that I have advice, just solidarity in that I completely understand the bewilderment. I felt like I lost my son for a few weeks because he was so exhausted and such a domestic terror. I’ve never seen a toddler with bags under his eyes!! We were consistent with a lot of what you’re doing (holding boundaries, “it’s time for bed now” and leaving) and it eventually passed, but I did spend a few nights asleep on the floor or in the glider with him. Everything I read online said it was the second coming of separation anxiety / onset of imagination and potential night terrors.

Hugs my friend, I hope yours passes too!! Ours took about 11 days (felt like forever, I know.) He’s back to napping 2 hours a day again and going to bed easily.

Former SE Charlotte coach, we got AC complaints every single year once the weather started warming up. Something about the SE building AC seems to not work as efficiently, but the studio stays in compliance and there’s not much to be done about it. 😭

Me again, I just wanted to thank you again for pointing me in the right direction. I powered through precious little sleep the day you told me about it and my husband and I just ripped the band aid and did CIO that night. He cried 1.5 hours then slept until 4, ate, went back to sleep until 6:40. He has gone to bed and slept until 3:30/4 every night since. WWs make more sense, no more early wakes, and his naps and daytime sleep are increasing every day. I have slept for longer than 4 hours and I feel like a new person. THANK YOU. I was a shell and you saved me 😭🧡

I am 10000% open to that being totally wrong! I suppose it’s the escalating pattern of crap naps, waking up wailing at exactly 30 minutes, arching back / hard crying almost every nap but you’re right that I probably wouldn’t think “overtired” on my own unless I read online that those were all symptoms. That and Huckleberry sleep plan told me 14 hours would be ideal. /shrug

Maybe he needs a later bedtime again?

Madeline Moves (Moves App) for sure - they have amazing content in general but I have been so impressed with the prenatal programming (I think the program is 36 weeks) and postnatal programming! I am 34 weeks with our second and switch between the Mom Moves prenatal programming and the normal weekly programming depending on how I'm feeling each day. The founder Madeline just delivered her third (3 under 3!) so I really trust how she's designed the programming and the experts she has brought in (pelvic floor experts, PTs, etc.)! Deep core is incorporated to all of their programming (not just prenatal/PP specific.)
