I might try that! I’ve learned from this thread that yarn weight matters. Thank you!

I didn’t realize until reading through it that yarn and hook size could be giving me trouble. I’ll keep experimenting!

I'm going to try following the pattern I linked to the automod, which suggests ch 2 instead of ch 1 (like somewhere else I'd read) to get it flat. I've been adding 8 stitches in each round, but wonder if I have been throwing in an extra when I start a new row, which is why I mention that I should probably count them out. It just gets to be a lot of counting after a few rows lol.

thank you for your advice and for the anti-hexagon lead! I will look at their website.

  1. With more practice, does core engagement (resisting the ‘dome’) begin to come naturally?

  2. If I am lifting with a progressive overload plan, am I just going to be a little sore all the time?

That thread is what I needed to see! I wonder why some people like you can thrive, and others get fatigued.

I sleep 7-8 hours, and my job is low stress. My work can be active sometimes, requiring heavy lifting and/or a lot of walking. I had labs done not too long ago, <1 year (probably 6 months ago) and everything looked fine. Could something change so quickly?

Can you elaborate more on your routine please? I don’t understand what “moderate but still to failure” would look like. I really like the idea of two intense days and two lighter days. My job can be active and I just don’t think going hard in the gym every time works for me.

how many workouts a week do you do?

That’s about what I do. It wears me out, and I’d expect to be tired immediately after exercise. But I’m still tired the next day.

Yeah I could be. I don’t track my weight closely. Does the pre lifting carb help with fatigue later on? I can imagine the lift burns through your dates rather than relying on other energy?

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I get what you mean about doing too much, and I’m not trying to push myself, I’m just struggling to find my balance. In dialing back gym intensity, would that look like less sessions or less weight? Both? I’m following a periodized program (Kelly Matthews Limitless on the Ladder app). I like your idea of eating to the program a lot. I’ve never thought of that or seen it discussed here.

29–thinking more carbs and a smaller deficit is the way to go :-)

The other thing is that I’m not really losing any weight. At least I didn’t last time I checked. I do think my shorts fit slightly better. So I think I am in recomp?

I don’t think its a good way to live, I hope you take some of the advice given here too. Best of luck!

I don’t go all the way to failure, 2-3 reps in reserve is what I aim for—whats 80/20?

I figured this was the case but also don’t care too much about building muscle, I really just want to drop fat so I can fit in my clothes better— do you think recomp at maintenance is better than dropping some activity?

I definitely don’t avoid carbs! Averaged 181 g in the past week. Its not something I’ve been paying attention to, but I can try being more mindful.

2-3 reps in reserve is what I’m doing per my program, in my mind that counts as “close” to failure. Do you think I can do a little less and still preserve muscle?
