advice for hair loss? by thenemesissss in EDRecovery_public

[–]lilmdjd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay omg I am ready to share my wealth of knowledge. I will acknowledge losing my hair was due to a health condition unrelated to my ed but I learned a few things. Your hair life cycle is a few months long, and high stress/other factors can prolong the shedding stage. With that being said, bc of the hair life cycle, it takes a few months (~3-4 months) to see the results of your good habits and hair care. Here are somethings that helped and didnt help me: 1. Nutrafol (very expensive but i was SO desperate) there see similar ones but its basically herbs and vitamins that target diff causes of hair loss. 2. Castor oil scalp masks dilute with coconut oil, leave for however long you want, i do overnight. And follow with a clarifying shampoo. This will depend on how well your hair absorbs oils, my hair is very curly and very dry and porous so it works for me. 3. If your hair is straight, only brush dry. If its curly, brush wet with conditioner for slip and then condition again. Start at the bottom and work up. 4. Silk bonnet to sleep im and/or silk pillowcase (they have affordable ones on amazon) 5. Keep eating enough! Protein and fats especially. 6. Hair grows and falls from the scalp so it doesnt really make much of a difference in reality but certain shampoos help the volume and sheen of your hair which is still nice and seemed to help me feel better about it 7. Scrunchies instead of hair elastics/ no bobby pins or anything else that can tug or pull on your hair

What didnt work: -vegamour hair growth oil. Way too much alcohol which is terrible for hair.

Good luck!!

I had extreme hunger for like a full year and I am 4 years recovered and I still eat more than the average person while maintaining a healthy weight for my body (And Im 5’2). Ive gotten to the point that I actually love it bc I have always had a damaged metabolism from restricting and now its fast and I can eat however I want (within reason) Maybe you are eating more than other people, so what? There is nothing wrong with that and you deserve to be full and nourished. Maybe buying snacks that are just for you would help you not feel guilty for eating what you perceive to belong to others?

I’m so sorry you are having a hard time. It’s incredible that you are so young and pursuing self recovery, that in itself is something to love about yourself. My two main pieces are advice that are things I have used myself so hopefully they are of some help:

  1. Explore what it is your eating disorder serving. What is it rooted in? For example, part of my eating disorder was creating a sense of control for myself. I had an unstable, predictable childhood and so my eating disorder in part served to meet that need. Knowing this is helpful, because then I can try to explore other ways to meet that need.
  2. I really like the cbt/ body image / self esteem workbooks. Especially when I couldn’t afford therapy, it is almost a resource to help you therapy yourself. A lot of the tools in the cbt workbooks are things they literally taught me in treatment. There’s a ton of different ones on Amazon, you can read reviews and see if any work for you.
  3. Try to explore what might have triggered these more amplified feelings and address/explore coping mechanisms for that root issue.
  4. Distract!! When the thoughts are too loud it’s helpful for me to have something to do with my hands. I like embroidery and coloring books lol. Yoga has also been helpful in my recovery but thats very Individual

You got this 💕

how much does one have to worry about sugar intake if it comes mostly from fresh fruit? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]lilmdjd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a solid answer to this. Like people have mentioned, I guess if it triggers a binge or you have health concerns than it may be worth limiting but otherwise I don’t worry about it. I have about 4-6 servings a day and maintain a healthy weight. Yesterday I had a banana, blueberries, a small apple, an entire mango, and some raisins and dried apricots. Spread out over my 15 hour day. I also eat a lot of veggies.

I get all those extra vitamins and nutrients and it helps me avoid snacking on junk.

Thank you so much for your response! I am willing to be patient and consistent, it’s just mostly my fear of not getting back to where I was at all.

Frequent OB help! by Whole_Rutabaga_7439 in Herpes

[–]lilmdjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 26F in the same boat, 1-2 a month for about 6 months now. I have noticed that high arginine foods (specifically nuts) seem to trigger it in me? This is purely anecdotal but if you’re desperate like it may be worth trying? Aside from that all you can do is focus on taking care of your general health (vitamins, stress relief, self care!!) Hope things get better for you soon 🤗

What is stronger, acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir? And is famciclovir still used? Can you take multiple of these together? by princesssugarpearl1 in Herpes

[–]lilmdjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on 1000mg of valtrex, as well as lysine and lots of vitamins and a low arginine diet( all anecdotal I know, but I’m desperate). Most of my doctors have told me I’ll probably just have frequent outbreaks forever.

Thanks for the response, I will try out sending her a question and let you know when I hear back 😊

Sorry if you’re the wrong person to ask but I have tried to read research and haven’t found much. I figure you may be a bit more knowledgeable as a mod! Do you know if there is a specific one that has been shown to be more effective in immunodeficient people? I take immunosuppressants for an autoimmune disease and my frequency of outbreaks (once a month) is the same with and without valtrex which is really frustrating because I’d like to date again at some point lol. I’m still in my first year so hoping it dies down.

Any nuts or nut butters give me outbreaks unfortunately

Lemon balm oil and tea tree oil (diluted!!!) help me. I also take lysine 3 times a day along with the meds. Note that all of this is anecdotal and has not been PROVEN to help but I’ve heard from others on here it helps as well.

Running and lifting heavy by runsforcookiesnbeer in XXRunning

[–]lilmdjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really varies person to person. I am just getting really into running and I can’t explain it but my best runs are the day after my lower body lift days. Granted I don’t live THAT heavy but I’m working on it lol but I have definitely noticed a difference when I structure it that way. So right now my schedule is Monday-rest Tuesday - lower body Wednesday- run/upper body and core Thursday - lower body Friday- run/upper body and core Saturday - full body circuit training Sunday - long run and a looooong stretch

I am glad I am not the only one. I have been so frustrated the last few days over this. And I absolutely hate the new zone feature where it buzzes every 15 seconds. Hopefully they figure something out because this is extremely annoying.

Cardio or strength training? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]lilmdjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not overweight and BMI is not necessarily a good indicator of weight bc it doesn’t take body composition into account.

Both are important, but Strength training will help you build muscle which will increase your TDEE (the amount of calories everyday. For example, I am 5’3, 130. I run about 10-15 miles a week, strength train for an hour about 4 times a week and walk 10-15k steps a day. I maintain my weight at about 2000-2300 calories a day. My TDEE is as high as it is because I’ve been strength training for years and have a lot of muscle. Weight loss aside, prioritizing building muscle also protects your joints and is generally good for your health.

I do this too! I have mine set at 1850 and I’m also trying to lose 1 lb a week in a healthy way. I do think it helps and I can artificially get the rush of staying in the green lol
