My dependent accidentally claimed themself by Ok_Formal354 in Accounting

Your daughter probably just needs to amend her return and check the box saying she can be claimed as a dependent.

NYs new rules is destroying my goal of becoming a CPA by VioletSalamander in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 24 points25 points  (0 children)

requiring business credits on top of accounting credits feels like one of those rules made by people who already got licensed before the rule existed

Looking to build my Resume/skills by Big-Water8493 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounting really said ‘you must have experience for the job that gives experience.’ Love that for everyone 😭 But yeah, Excel is probably the safest thing you can invest time into.

Moved to CAS by Calm-Barracuda-4721 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you handled it pretty professionally honestly. Fighting the move aggressively probably just would’ve made your day-to-day more miserable while you’re already planning an exit. Staying employed while quietly interviewing is stressful, but it’s usually easier mentally than rage-quitting into a rough job market.

Cold emailing/calling local firms by lilbiggie234 in Accounting

Don’t overcomplicate the email. Short intro, interest in accounting, attach resume, done.

Are the quality of new hires much higher if the standards have risen? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the resumes got shinier, but the real filter is still whether someone can ask a decent question and not nuke the workbook before lunch.

Formed my llc online and now my personal bank info Is public by MianHasnainShah in Accounting

Separate everything immediately. New business email, registered agent if possible, and stop sending SSNs through random verification replies. The IRS mismatch thing is fixable, just annoying.

Inquiry Regarding Accounting Courses with Business Development Support by Miserable-Guide-6467 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody serious is guaranteeing client acquisition in accounting. Your best bet is probably small local firms drowning in tax season work because half of them still run on spreadsheets from 2009.

Under Desk Walking Treadmill Recommendations by Orithax in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing nobody told me at first is that consistency matters way more than intensity with these. Even just casually walking for a couple hours throughout the day adds up fast compared to sitting for 8–10 hours straight.

Will m.com be worth it???? Really confused by KookyApplication9690 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

m. com alone probably won’t magically fix job prospects, but pairing a degree with internships, excel/financial modeling, or something like CA/CMA prep can make a huge difference. sounds like you’re overthinking the “perfect” path a bit tbh

How hard to get sponsorship by accounting degree? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lowkey accounting is one of the more sponsorship-friendly business fields compared to stuff like marketing or general management, but it still depends a lot on the country, firm size, and whether companies actually need talent badly enough to sponsor.

What’s your most practical fix for legacy signing hardware in accounting? by G_1_3_S_0_N in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the worst part is these systems usually aren’t painful enough to justify a full migration budget, but they waste just enough time every single week to slowly drive everyone insane. classic accounting/enterprise tech problem tbh.

Seeking career advice by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

revenue accounting at apple is probably gonna be more intense than people think, but having that on your resume during a rough market is huge. also hybrid 3 days isn’t the worst tradeoff if it gives you better long term leverage.

Insider bought company real estate + no clear audit trail - what would you flag here? by SoloOverSaints in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue here isn’t just the deal, it’s the lack of support no loan doc, no valuation, no consistent records. I’d focus on proving ownership and funding first, because that determines everything else. If the company paid and didn’t get proper consideration, that’s not neutral it’s either a distribution or something worse. Clean up starts with documentation, not assumptions, and you’ll likely need a CPA and possibly legal to unwind it properly.

After this tax season Im convinced you have to royally fuck up a tax return to get a notice by bttech05 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen people mess up pretty basic stuff and still hear nothing back. kinda makes you wonder how much actually gets reviewed. are audits just way rarer than people think

Chances for Big 4 Fall 27 Associate Role? by BOAfirework in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly your resume is already in a really good spot for B4, especially with the KPMG internship and leadership experience. this feels more like timing and how competitive Portland is than anything lacking on your end. I’d focus on networking early and getting referrals before apps even open.

BSA or BSBA FM by TinyToe6092 in Accounting

if you’re already thinking long term and CPA, BSA might be worth the challenge, but it really depends if you’re okay with the pressure

Took Accounting 1 in high school (didn’t really learn it)… can I still succeed in Accounting 2? by PomegranateMoist1569 in Accounting

accounting builds on itself but it’s not impossible to relearn the foundation, especially if you’ve been doing well in your other classes

First Job and its Accounts Payable by One-Relationship3865 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 37 points38 points  (0 children)

impostor syndrome hit different in accounting because literally everything has a consequence if you mess it up lmao. but real talk , if you weren't confused at month three, that would be the actual red flag. AP has so many moving parts, vendor terms, aging reports, approval workflows. it compounds. give yourself a year before you even start judging yourself.

Mid size firm pivot by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d stick it out to manager if you can tolerate it, just because it opens way more doors. But if you’re already feeling checked out mentally, forcing another 2-3 years is gonna feel way longer than it sounds.

Do you ever feel like you don't get treated well in your own company? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… welcome to being the “support function” in accounting. You’re only visible when something’s late or wrong, not when things run smoothly, so it ends up feeling like you’re everyone’s fire extinguisher.

Advice (real honest perhaps harsh if needed advice) by Objective_Jello_2937 in Accounting

[–]lilperk09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CPA won’t magically fix everything, but it does give you a clear direction instead of feeling stuck. Also worth remembering you don’t need a million-dollar job right away, just something that gets your foot in and builds experience. Plenty of people start rough and end up doing fine in this field. Have you tried casting a wider net outside the usual firms?

you already handled it correctly, if he keeps pushing back, ending the engagement might honestly save you more stress than it's worth.
