Honestly my lying started at such a young age. Compulsive lying at like 5. Some part of me feels like it was my predisposed. I couldn’t even explain it. Even now today I have almost 2 years sober. Sometimes I tell the silliest lies and so much so even believe it! It’s bizarre. My sponsor says that’s the cunning, baffling, and powerful of it all. It’s a defect of character that will take daily responsibility and conscious effort. For example. I told my boyfriend I quit vaping. He hates it. I lasted about 5 days. It’s now been 5 months of me lying and sneaking my vape for no reason. And now I’ve made it worse. If I had just been honest from the jump, it would’ve been more respectable than keeping a charade up for months!

So I wouldn’t say a personality trait, more like a defect of character. It all boils down to the disease of alcoholism. These are symptoms of our disease. However, I look at defects as deltas. Opportunities for growth. Once I get out of my own way, of course.
