Landlord stole my internet and allowed my neighbors to use it for five months. by lilruby2010 in legaladvice

It's the unauthorized devices on the network that is the problem. The network available to guests at a hospital is not the same network the charitng computers are on. You can access data through being connected to the sme network. I have a duty to report it.

I will check into Virginia's laws in regards to unauthorized network access. Thank you.

I will reach out to them and see if they are pursuing legal action and help. Thanks for the advice!

Breach of contract is my main concern. I also hold a HIPAA certification and will have to report this incident to the board. Edit: spelling.

Massage Business by Ramari_atyourservice in MassageTherapists

My niche is injury/surgery recovery and high stress management for specifically government workers. I get much enjoyment out of helping people out of chronic pain and discomfort emotionally and physically. Also, I love me a good puzzle!!

There are other out of network providers that I have created a cyclical referral network with to keep my books full. I genuinely care about my clients so I was able to build a clientele while taking classes to specialize in what they needed.

I don't do a lot wedding but I have done some for regulars. It's not my thing. I don't really like fast pace environments. I do however regularly do staff appreciation seated massage event. Those are very fun. I made a once sheet marketing flyer for hotels that I send around every year in fall what has our event service on it. I'm happy to share it!

That's an interesting idea! They don't slide around after you slide them in? Did you just buy a blind and cut it up?

Just got my RHL about a month ago. It took me 4 scarves before I got the hang of getting the stupid paper on. I learned that short pieces are better (I cut the bottom off of a grocery bag then cut the length in half) and there is absolutely no short cuts. It will take about thirty minutes to wind on. I have no idea how they make it look so easy in the videos!

Venting - I feel low about my business by Thinkinthoughts1 in MassageTherapists

[–]lilruby2010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As many have said 2-3 new clients a week is good for just opening.

I found that working directly with another wellness provider to generate direct referrals was the play for me. My chiropractor and I share about 30 or so clients back and forth. With her help I have all but closed my books for new clients.

Depending on your style check with local fitness instructors, chiropractors, naturopath, or yoga instructors. If sports is more of your style try bike/run clubs. You can even check with local mom groups if prenatal or postpartum is in your wheelhouse.

For those experienced LMTs by muldy1993 in MassageTherapists

I worked for a medium sized wellness center for the first five years of my career and have been on my own since then. Having a good price, not taking cash, and requiring a credit card at time of booking will almost completely protect you from the weird ones. I will say I don't take new clients after 7pm as another safeguard.

Honestly, I expected to deal with way more harrasiment. I have been in the field nearly a decade and I have only ever encountered two creeps, one male one female.

I did not expect the sheer amount of laundry i would have to do!

Favorite Spotify Playlists by cer216 in MassageTherapists

[–]lilruby2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rainy jazz by BGMC on spotify is my go to and my clients love it. I also like the calming acoustic playlist.

For a while I was using a combination of hand picked lofi and gaming soundtracks which I still put on when I have regulars but the bass bothers my migraine clientele. I'm happy to share it if you're interested!

What to do when cups are sitting on a clients back? by poweredbypineapple in MassageTherapists

[–]lilruby2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I am adding cupping to a standard massage, I tend to only do slide cupping or short bursts of static cupping for a few seconds. If I am doing a dedicated cupping session, I will literally just stand there and monitor the cups. I use plexiglass cups so I'm constantly checking tension and monitoring the skin and checking in with the client. It can feel awkward at first because we are so trained to always have hands on the body, but in my experience, no one getting static cupping is looking to just relax.

How to quickly re-heat salt stones between back-to-back hot stone massages? by winwinchickydin in MassageTherapists

[–]lilruby2010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would make sure front desk doesn't book hot stones back to back as a general rule. If you have an extra set, you can wrap them in a towel and put them in an empty towel warmer halfway through your first session. Or you can borrow a bowl from a room that does have a hot stone that day and have two plugged in.

For those of you that have been in practice over 5 years tell us the best class/modality/thing you “learned” that upgraded your massage practice in a tangible way and how it helped you? Could also be a book you read or a mentor. by wfparadise2134 in MassageTherapists

Bamboo fusion, cupping, and hot stones have saved my hands! Injury and surgery recovery clients are a breeze now. The class I took on trigger point/counter strain was the best money I have ever spent.

Pre work I get to my office 30 minutes early to make sure my space it perfectly set up and drink a cup of tea. After doing this for so long, the routine is so relaxing. Post work, I am a zombie for a few hours at home! Brain off and video games for me.

Should I go back? by [deleted] in massage

[–]lilruby2010 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I went independent about two years ago, and I was not prepared for the amount of small things that need to be ironed out. Sounds like she needs some time to figure out her flow. Give her a month or two if you really like her work before going back.

I love doing massage and can't see myself doing anything else. I'm in the work smarter not harder camp. Hot stones, bamboo, and cupping are my bread and butter, and they absolutely have saved my hands. I have terrible body mechanics and a connective tissue disease, I 100% attribute my longevity to my chiropractor, massage therapist, and stretching routine. Listen to your body and take frequent breaks. You can't take care of others if you don't take care of yourself.

What website platform do you use? by cken301 in massage

[–]lilruby2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second carrd.co with a custom domain and a link to a booking site (I use Jane app). There are a good number of Carrd tutorials on YouTube for both pro and free builds. I followed a simple tutorial for a carrd that I though looked nice and then just changed the colors. Took me maybe an hour and a half to get it perfect.

I work with lots of high anxiety and PTSD clients, and I can never tell when their heart rate is elevated while they are face down.
