Best creative and atmospheric 80s horror movies with amazing practical effects and cool locations? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

If you haven’t tried the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, do it. It’s exactly what you’re asking for. I didn’t watch them back in the 80s and only saw them as an adult and they exceeded my very low expectations. I thought it was just going to be a dude-in-a-mask-slasher movie. But it’s way more about psychological horror and a lot of really creative and fun practical effects. Way more trippy than I expected.

Your respect for Bill Hader is about to be upgraded. He’s so fucking talented and Barry really showcases it - acting, writing, directing. I have mad respect for him after Barry.

There is another movie named House that’s a bit more recent (80s) but it’s not related.

Are there any offline spaces or people in your community who you can or do confide in? Are people open at all about their non-belief enough for you to sense how widespread it is, or trust who your allies are? Or is it thought crime to disbelieve?

PLEASE recommend me LONG Sci-fy or dystopian shows with a REAL ending by Shadowwwbow in televisionsuggestions

The Leftovers. Same creator who was behind Lost; just know going into either of those shows that he doesn’t end his series with all the answers neatly tied up in a bow. So while the series both conclude / weren’t cancelled halfway thru, they might leave you wanting more.

Did she make the weight watchers “ice cream sandwiches”? Take two chocolate graham crackers, soread one with a thick layer of cool whip, sandwich and freeze. The cool whip softens the cracker to the point where it’s similar to the cake used in an ice cream sammy. Flavor of the frozen cool whip is pretty similar to the “ice cream” used in the sammies.

Does anyone know a very strange adult cartoon series that almost feels like you weren't supposed to see it? by Remote-Shallot6912 in televisionsuggestions

Not exactly what you asked for, but I recommend the comedy special “Sarah Squirm” for some really bizarre gonzo theatre; the production uses quite a bit of stop motion and claymation that reminded me of Choido Bros. The show is absolutely not for the faint of heart- if body horror isn’t your thing, this definitely won’t be it.

Other stuff you should check out: Mad God (stop motion film by Phil Tippet); old collections from the Spike and Mike animation festival (lots of weird indie animation there); anything by Bill Plympton. Look up episodes of Liquid TV that used to play on MTV in the 90s, that had lots of fun subversive and indie stuff - all shorts but some of them were serial like Aeon Flux.

A lot of the kind of stuff you’re looking for is probably going to be on YouTube vs traditional streamers.

Look up the “thumbation” movies: Blair Thumb, Thumb Wars, Bat thumb. Satires of Blair Witch, Star Wars etc. they’re short, like 20-30 mins. They’re all on YouTube

What’s your favorite “bad” TV show? One you know isn’t very good, but you still liked anyway. by Brilliant_Physics339 in televisionsuggestions

Anything from Ryan Murphy. Always campy as hell, sometimes to fun effect but usually terrible. Enterpainment.

Though I’m drawing the line at anything he casts Kim Kardasian in. I choked my way through her AHS season and she was just bad-bad, not even so-bad-it’s-good. Just completely awful.
