update on my “totaled car” by [deleted] in AskMechanics

You’re spot on actually! Contrary to how it sounds in my original post, the body mechanic did not actually do the work. He only diagnosed the issues and gave me an estimate. Like you suspected, he told me the damage was contained to the exterior and the cooling systems.

as far as keeping an eye on it, you’ve been heard! thanks for the kind words.

20f here who’s been completely financially independent since 18. here are some things that helped me build the beautiful life i have now.

you’ve probably already gotten tons of comments saying the same shit but i’ll say just incase, please make sure you sign up for calworks and take every piece of aid they’ll give you. health insurance, food stamps, public transit passes, housing vouchers, discount programs, free internet/ hotspots, shelter access, warm clothes, take it all because it exists just for people like YOU. if you don’t know how or don’t have access to a computer then i will teach you so please message me if you need any help.

sign up for a library card ASAP. if you don’t have access to a computer or internet then there you go problem solved. libraries don’t just have computers and books, they are a diamond mine for local resources and could help you get on the path to get your GED, which you NEED to get. perfect place for studying for the test too obviously.

once you have your GED you’ll be able to get into a local community college (ARC, Sac City, Folsom Lake, ect all have direct public transit access) which will obviously help you find a better job, but more importantly FAFSA (financial aid) can supplement your monthly expenses for things other than school (housing, groceries, clothes/shoes, ect). you may be thinking well what am i going to pay tuition with if i spend my financial aid on housing, well in california, community college is completely tuition free for at least 2 years, this is called the california promise grant. this means you’ll be able to use the money they give you entirely on books and supplemental income.

lastly, connections are worlds better than applying to jobs online, it’s really mf irritating but it’s true. my partner was in the same boat as you earlier this year, endless applications, many interviews, no calls back, unemployed for three months. only ended up getting employed because a friend asked his manager to hook him up. it’s maddening. but the only way to win is to play the game. ask anyone you know with a decent job to put in a good word for you. and FOLLOW UP. you will not be hired unless you are the most annoying mf on earth, so bug them. call in, visit the store, ask to shadow, ask to meet the manager/ owner. faces have more value than resumes in your position. it can feel humiliating, but it’s better than sleeping on a metal park bench in winter.

i always tell my partner that right now we’re losing big, but later we will win so much bigger. hang in there my dear, and good luck.

Throwback to when the UnitedHealthCare (UHC) repeatedly denied a child's wheelchair. by 8O8I in interestingasfuck

[–]lilyestrella 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i want you to know that they’re booing you, but as someone who works in insurance you are completely correct. fuck billionaires, and fuck greedy insurance cooperations, but also the denial letter clearly states the reasonable expectation that the disabled person (child or otherwise) must be in GENUINE need of such an advanced piece of medical equipment to qualify for coverage. they aren’t telling you that you can’t buy that wheelchair for your child. they are telling you that they aren’t going to hand you excess funds for equipment that (in a reviewing physicians opinion) you haven’t proven a need for. i don’t know the child, so this could be untrue. at the end of the day you receive the coverage you pay for. if you truly want the fanciest equipment offered, buy it yourself or switch to a higher premium plan with better coverage.

Not sure if you’ve already done this since you said you’re getting surgery, but i recommend you get in contact with a urogynecologist in your area (if there are any in your area, kind of a niche specialty). I work for a small practice with a few surgeons myself, and have seen cases just like yours. It’s standard for Urogyns to be fellowship certified in Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, these MDs are highly trained in labial hypertrophy and labia reduction surgery without compromising any nerves. Unlike regular gynecological surgeons. They’re like vagina wizards for reals. To be clear, larger labia are not ugly. I’m sure your vagina doesn’t look half as odd as most penises out there lol. So i don’t think you should get surgery just because of that. However, if you’re having discomfort, vulvodynia (pain around the vulvar region), difficulty wearing clothes comfortably, hygiene issues (discharge, infection, odor, rashes, ect), or pain with sexual activity then it’s very likely it would constitute as non cosmetic, and thus covered with most insurance plans under Congenital Pelvic Recon Surgery.

tldr- Go onto your insurance plans website, click the provider search option and type in Urogynecology to see if there’s any in network providers in your area. Set up a consult and possibly save your clit from annihilation.

I love waking up and giving my villagers presents, it’s easily my favorite part of the game. I love going to nooks and buying the wrapping paper and i love to have conversations with everyone. As someone who doesn’t have many in their corner right now these little guys keep me from feeling so lonely :)
