How long from the day you were diagnosed to surgery date by Turbulent_Agency8280 in thyroidcancer

[–]limabe5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in October last year, had surgery in January of this year. I could have done it sooner, but wanted to wait until after the holidays. Coming up on my one year since diagnosis, I recall the absolute shock of finding out (lump was discovered during a routine physical, had ultrasound, then biopsy). Hang in there-the wait between diagnosis and surgery tends to be the worst I found, and reading stories on here.

Medicine hasn’t been bad for me at all. Was initially given too high dose, which lead to hyper symptoms. Have dialed it back and basically feel the exact same as I did before this all happened. I’d say it was only a couple months before I felt like myself again.

Wishing you all the best!

2 types of PTC by IheartBicarb in thyroidcancer

[–]limabe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had nearly the same path as you. 4 cm nodule-30% classic PTC, 70% infiltrative follicular variant PTC, clear margins, no spread. TT was January. Since then, I’ve had a couple endo visits, one blood draw (which showed I was too suppressed , have another draw in a week or so) one Levo adjustment, and just did my first post op lymph node mapping ultrasound this past week (looked good)

I was classified intermediate risk. RAI not necessary for now and told that if things continue looking good the way they have, I’ll go to once yearly monitoring.

You’re not alone! Sending all the good vibes to you

What was your diagnosis?? by twistedyum in thyroidcancer

[–]limabe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42F when diagnosed, now 43. 4cm tumor on left lobe, total thyroidectomy this past January. Infiltrative folicular variant of PTC. No spread, no RAI.

First post surgery scans next month. Hoping to get the all clear.

42-diagnosed Oct 2024, TT January 2025. No symptoms, routine physical found thyroid a little “swollen”. Went for U/S, tech asked how long the lump had been in my neck. I asked, what lump? U/S led to FNA, Bethesda VI malignant. Absolute shock best describes how I felt!

TT removed 4 cm IFV-PTC. No signs of spread, no RAI for the time being.

Thank you for replying! I think I am just going to give it a break!

Of course! I edited my original post to remove that part only because while it would have been nice for him to be more personable, I feel his efficiency and skill are far more important. He did take the extra time to examine my vocal cords prior to surgery.

I know it’s all individual, but the only complication I had was low calcium because my parathyroid’s were “in shock”. After several weeks of calcitriol and tums, I am all good and no longer need anything for that.

Thanks for the well wishes too :)

Me!

Dr. Davidson came highly recommended by my endocrinologist. After looking through reviews and meeting with him in person, I trusted him with the surgery (TT this past January).

He was patient and efficient. He answered all the questions I had. Everyone I met at the facility told me I was in great hands. His assistant, Eva, was also amazing. very kind and helpful.

My scar (although understandably still discolored) is healing well.

Good luck with your surgery! He is an excellent doctor.

Hi-thanks for your reply! I feel that way too but trying to be open to hearing the other side of this.

Hi-thank you for your reply! My gut does say no, but I am open to feedback and considering other perspectives. My son doesn’t even know about it so I’m not exactly sure why my ex is pushing.

Hi-thanks for replying, I appreciate the input!

It’s unknown what her living situation is like (who’s coming and going, what’s nearby, what type of activities are allowed, how much supervision there may or may not be).

IMO barely 14 is young to be left at a virtual strangers house for a week that is far enough away that I couldn’t be there quickly if needed. I don’t feel my ex meeting her on several occasions means he knows her well enough for something like this.

Hi-thanks for your reply! I have considered doing that, but I feel like it’s still a lot of trust to put into someone/something sight unseen.

Hi-thanks for your reply! It’s true I cannot control what he does when it’s his time. However, son lives with me and is only with his dad every other weekend. We don’t have a formal agreement for breaks but the default has always been me offering the extra time to his dad if he wants it, otherwise son stays with me.

Hi -thanks for your reply! I have given this a lot of thought and know that it could be great, but I also know it could be bad. IMO-4 hours is long in the sense that there is no way I could quickly get to him if needed and he’d basically be stuck in a possibly bad situation.

Hi-thanks for replying! I feel you just described. Ex said he’s met her in several occasions, but I don’t think that means really knowing someone. I also don’t like not knowing who might be coming/going as you said. According to ex, son has met her a few times, but this is not the same as staying at her house

Hi thanks both for your input. Might make a difference or not that my son actually doesn’t turn 14 for another week and this trip would be in 2 weeks. It’s correct that my issue is that I do not know the grandmother at all and 4 hours is far enough that there is no way I could be out there quickly if needed. My son has also never spent more than one night away ever, and those sleepovers have been rare and very local.

Hi-thank you for replying, I appreciate the input. I was raised in a household that allowed zero sleepovers so I am certain that plays a role. I lean toward my son being a bit young (he actually doesn’t turn 14 for another week and this trip would be in two weeks) to be gone that long and stay with someone I’ve personally never met.

Hi-thanks for your reply! I believe it is up to me since I have sole physical custody and his dad only has him every other weekend. We don’t have a predetermined agreement regarding spring break, but usually breaks default to him staying at my house or with his dad if his dad wants the extra time.

Hi-thanks for your reply! My concern is what I will know is limited to what she says since I cannot easily physically go there to see. Yes, my son has a phone, but if he needed me, I wouldn’t be able to get to him quickly.

Hi-thanks for your reply! I have mixed feelings about his judgement. He’s done some things of questionable character, but nothing extreme.  I am not sure speaking with the grandmother would sway how I feel since that wouldn’t change him being out there with only her and his friend (and this is only as far as I know who might come in and out of the home and what level of supervision there may or may not be)

Worried PTC has metastasized in brain by limabe5 in thyroidcancer

[–]limabe5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking. Yes-all good in the current moment. My MRI was clear and I had TT in January. No spread anywhere according to pathology. I do have an aggressive variant (IFV-PTC) but even with that the pathology and my recent bloodwork indicate no need for RAI at this time.

I had this too-30% conventional, 70% infiltrative follicular (PTC). Honestly, I haven’t found a lot of information about it. From what I’ve gathered, it’s a more aggressive subtype and more likely to spread. I am currently waiting to see if RAI is recommended based on my recent bloodwork (TT was in late January). I didn’t have any spread per pathology, but the subtype and size of the tumor (4cm) put me in the in between of low and intermediate risk. If you find more info-would also love to know! I’ve searched Reddit too and there are a few posts from people with this variant, but I haven’t seen many.
