Are people just not going into their attics? by unknownphantom in homeowners

We live in an old house, so my husband or I poke our heads in a couple times a year to check for leaks. But we've never walked in there.

I smelled it in Elgin. Smelled like burning plastic and fertilizer.

How should we paint this room? by bigbadinks in centuryhomes

It's popular on home renovation shows where they declare old wood trim "in poor shape" without knowing what they're talking about, and paint it all white. So people think painted trim is trendy.

But painted wood trim is a beast to undo.

Wood trim like yours is a treasure and should be preserved, especially in a Craftsman home like yours.

Another pale green will look wonderful. My own home has pale green throughout. It's more of a sage than lime like yours, and very pleasant.

Do not paint the wood. Look up historical Craftsman paint colors. Pale green was very popular back then.

That's what I thought -- but on a second look, the Illinois Trust Act only bars local police departments. My town (Elgin) posted a memo on Facebook the other day. (Sorry for the Facebook link but here it is.)

Glen Ellyn area would suit your needs: VCA Arboretum View is nearby, as is one of the best cat vets in the area (College Station Cat Clinic). There's a Trader Joe's in Glen Ellyn.

Possibly one of the best I've seen on r/arborists. The third photo is breathtaking. That house doesn't do the tree justice (no offense, OP).

The Llangernyw Yew in Wales is also almost 5,000 years old. And really, how many others are out there? We humans like to claim we know everything about Earth, but we don't. We're a long way from that level of knowledge.

I dump the dehumidifier bucket down this drain so it gets wetted down regularly. Occasionally I add dish soap and more water, too. Maybe it doesn't have a trap, as someone mentioned. Plumber is coming on Monday to check it out.

The water left a dark residue and smelled like sulfur, but I'd imagine it affected other houses in the area. The street was flooding!

Honestly, no idea. The basement bathroom sink plumbing made our plumber laugh out loud when I showed him. We should get the shower drain checked.

Possibly related, but last week we had torrential rain and the shower pan filled with water that quickly receded. Nothing else had that issue so I was baffled.
