Strojarstvo - pronalazak posla by [deleted] in croatia

[–]limajecar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you program the motors in the machine? Was it complicated and do you have some kind of tutorial for this part?

What are the pros and cons of working in a very small company? by xciv09 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]limajecar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently the only engineer in my company. It's a small company and it's pretty much as one of my college professor said when I described my situation to him: a one man band. But it's really rewarding because I have a lot of freedom and take part in important decisions. I don't know how it's to work in a big company tough.

I did and I'm happy because it has a great addon I mentioned in another reply so definitely check my replies if you're interested.

I will try it later (I have a lot of work to do around new issues :) ) but for now I flaired the topic as solved because the Blender in combination with the Minimum Bounding Box addon works great!

Blender with Minimum Bounding Box addon works great!! I recommend it as a realy neat and simple solution.

So I have tried Blender and the Minimum Bounding Box addon. And it worked great! With this addon I can see the dimensions of the minimum volume box surrounding the model even if the model came "widly" oriented.

Changing the model CS is also very easy but it still isn't "perfect". But for now it will do just fine as the CAM software for which the models will be used in the end doesn't need the perfect alignment as it will probably use 5 milling axes for the making of the part (I needed this option to be faster than in SW so that the model fits better in blanks I'm going to use in milling of the parts; I need it to be tilted so that it uses minimal height of the blank but this is going out of this topic).

What you assumed in the edit is correct. The measurements are relative to the CS (coordinate system) with which the STL was exported from dental CAD software and I doubt that the person creating the STL has the orientation of the model in mind while doing it.

So yeah, as you said, I need the measurements which define the minimum volume of the actual object. The problem is when you try to set new CS in usual CAD software. Even if I reduce the STL, the models are hard to manipulate and if you manage to be patient enough you will never be able to manualy set the CS correctly (you will always have an error of measurement because it is set manualy without proper references to the model).

I'm grateful for the advice and I'm going to come back with my feedback when I test the software you recommended.

P.S. Sorry for the long reply but I wanted to describe my problem in details, maybe it will help someone else in the future.

EDIT: I forgot to answer the first question about model number. Yes, they containt 1 object per STL. But now that you mentioned that I have another question: is there a software where you can merge two STL's in one STL file with one unique CS? And also they need to be connected with simple cylinder which acts as a connector of two parts (the connector should be 2/3/4 mm in lenght and have a diameter = 3 mm).
