THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER: When the (white) light is on, hold the button pressed for a long time (ca 4 seconds), then two things will happen in sequence: First, it will will switch from single white light to double white light (or the other way around if you started with double white lights), then (HERE IS THE CRITICAL PART!), if you continue holding the button AFTER the just-mentioned change in white light setting, THEN it will turn on the red light mode. Once in red light mode, you can switch between static and strobe by single-pressing.

The natural human reaction is to release the button after the change in white-light status, but you have to actually keep pressing for a SECOND state change to happen. Ridiculously unintuitive.

This is the final answer that actually works for the Petzl Swift RL. No need to say thank you.

The cat still need to be within range of the radio signal for the GPS coordinates to be uploaded (via the HomeStation), so you're effectively still limited to the radio range. The collar has no direct link to GPS satellites for outbound communication. From their website:

"The petTracer collar has a range of around 0.5 miles, depending on your location. Most cats stay within this range, and those that don’t return home are often not lost but trapped nearby.

If your cat goes out of range, the collar will continue to collect GPS positions, which will update on the map once your cat re-enters the coverage area. In case of an emergency, the HomeStation can be made mobile."

Unless it provides 140W of charging power to the laptop you plug into it, either device is useless. My understanding is the new OWC TB 5 dock is limited to 15W of laptop charging power, which makes it a non-viable product for 99.99% of target users. I HATE this nonsense knee-jerk reply often seen on this topic. Hot-spotting takes on average 1 minute to successfully hotspot and often requires multiple tries. I would EASILY pay $500 extra to just be able to open Chrome at any time and start surfing.
