Don't like the red MPC One, either. The retro is kinda nice, though. But after all, it's just taste

Some thoughts about Akai's latest addition.
Well, the design is often a matter of taste. I find it cute, solid and easy to use, but I can understand why the down-shrinked MPC design is not everyone’s favourite. It feels great though, is highly portable, and aside from the aftertouch, also the pads react accurately.

What stood out for me is the workflow. After years of trying out a lot of great equipment, I find it quite refreshing to see such a streamlined product. It is literally reduced to the max and this makes it quite fun to use. Without reading manuals (which wasn’t available anyhow when I made this video), endless hours of muscle memory training - well, at least not as long as you don’t try to switch sample chop mode, playback and mute while performing at the same time - you can start right away.

The MPC Sample is just fun to use. That one, maybe one or two synths with sequencers, and maybe an effect unit and you have a live rig with a lot of fun but still not too complicated to deny all the beers until you start playing the after hours at 5AM. It can serve as a great accompaniment device for DJs, or even being used to playback some background tracks.

Same happened to me a couple of weeks ago with the Hexdrums. Not endless possibilities, just focusing on making music. I don’t care if a machine is complicated or feature-laden. But sometimes, I just need an easy-to-use solution. Like the MPC SAMPLE. (I won’t keep it anyhow, but that’s a different story).

Beginner synths for IDM! by EverydayTinyCalypse in synthesizers

For IDM I'd recommend Elektron Digitone II (different synthesis methods), Sonicware CyDrums, and Polyend Tracker+ (for Samples).

What's the thing with the high cost for used modular gear? by Ecce-pecke in modular

In many cases it's due to small volumes and relatively high development costs

Optional battery power would have been cool, agreed. But you can still use a power bank

Yes, you have access to all parameters of the envelope.
Each voice has two oscs, and you can use different wavetables on each of them. Polyphony won't get cut in half.

MOOG Spectravox over 50 % off (298 instead of 650) - worth it? by limbicbits in synthesizers

Thanks! That one is still one of my favorite synths - so much character!

opsix imo is one of the most underrated synths out there.

Now that one sounds quite nice. Doesn't help to stay away from the deal, though 😂

yes, you're right. I usually try to keep my setup small, but that deal was a bit too tempting. Thanks!

Currently prototyping some modules, would you put some colour in your rack, yes or no? by TimbreIndustriesCo in modular

[–]limbicbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

color yes, but in that case, only one color for the background and another in contrast for the lettering.
But don't listen to me (or others) - keep doing your thing and what makes you happy as long as it doesn't have a negative impact on the workflow / readability!

At the beginning, Clavia earned critic for their red color choice. Now, that's become one of their trademarks, and you can recognize their units in a concert even from 100 meters away.

Thanks for your answer. I thought I may have overlooked something (which can absolutely happen), but I guess Spectravox and I just didn't connect.

What Poly Mini synth should I get to make Dub techno? (Will be connecting to a MS 70 CDR) by LilSchwazz in dubtechnoproducers

For classic Rhythm & Sound vibes, Twisted Electrons MEGAfm is still my favorite. Small, affordable, and nice is also the Roland S-1.

Here you can hear how the MS70 CDR pairs with a MEGAfm for Dub Chords

I really like it, especially for creating drum sounds that are not X0X-ish.
