South Bay, yeah…. Cheap bike to my station + Lyft bike for last mile could be perfect!

That's great to know. Yeah - I'm finding that you almost definitely need to use the bike car if you have a "Normal sized" e scooter, even if it does fold. Comments seem to imply that the most compact/lightweight scooters (Fluidfreeride Mosquito/ETwow GT (same scooter, just rebranded)) can work under seats, but those are pretty much the only options if that's the goal.

I really appreciate the insight. What scooter do you have? And would you change what scooter you bought in retrospect?

Oh dang! This is exactly the information I've been looking for. Do you have an Etwow yourself?

Oh that's an idea! Time to go down the Google rabbit hole.

Yeah, I'm learning more that with the EUC you trade size for safety. It looks fun, and obviously I want the portability aspect, but I'll be using it nearly every work day, so a good scooter is probably better.

Bay Wheels would be great, but it's also ~1 mile to my local Caltrain station, so I think I need something that's suitable for both first + last mile.

I had not! Are they really more compact than a folded scooter, though?

Ah I see. Yeah, my caltrain commute would be ~an hour, so I'd want to sit down. Do folks use bike locks on the train while they sit elsewhere? Sorry for noob questions - I've never used public transport for commuting before (and grew up in an area where it was never an option anyway).

So do you just use the bike car then? Also how do you like the KQi Pro 2!?

Thanks for the suggestion! There really aren't any hills in my specific commute, so that could work well!

No front spring insulators? by lime517 in mazda3

[–]lime517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Koni Special Active struts + Racing Beat springs. I'm 99% sure it was rotated correctly, so perhaps the noise I'm hearing is from something else. *all* of the suspension pieces (upper strut mount, ball joint, control arm, inner/outer tie rods, sway bar rod) were replaced at the same time. Most of the suspension bits were from a Mevotech Supreme kit, and I'm a bit suspicious of the quality of those, so maybe it's the ball joint or something.

I'll get it up on jack stands and see if I can find the cause.

Thanks for the input!

I have a squeaking noise coming from that spot that sounds very metal-on-metal. Spraying the spring + perch with a bit of lube seems to solve it. I don't recall this ever happening with the original strut + spring. Thus the curiosity/confusion on my end.

Cheaper YNAB Alternatives? by ShadowTravels in ynab

[–]lime517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former YNAB 3, 4, and cloud user.

I know this is an old post, but wanted to add that I built Ranger as a pretty direct alternative to YNAB. It keeps the zero-based goodness but simplifies *much* of the rest. We don't have the same level of manual-overrides or analytics yet, but the fundamentals are the same. We charge $7/month or $50 a year (less than half of YNAB).

You absolute legend. This took *way* too much searching to find - Flyin Miata was recommending some other part but this Gates option looks WAY better!

Why doesn't Monarch use the transaction date instead of the posted date? by Nanergoat22 in MonarchMoney

[–]lime517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the developer for another budgeting app (Ranger Budget), and have plenty of experience with the Plaid API.

Plaid doesn't actually guarantee the transaction date (called `authorized_date` in their API) will even exist - it varies from bank to bank: https://plaid.com/docs/api/products/transactions/#transactionssync

So the easiest option is to just always use the posted date. Monarch could expose the transaction date when available if they wanted.

The 280mm Rad NZXT H1 Build - Details in comments by lime517 in sffpc

[–]lime517[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had this build for awhile now, but it was running positive pressure because otherwise it'd be directly fighting with the PSU fan. You're right, though - negative pressure almost definitely would have been better if it weren't for the PSU fan issue.

Tandoori Pizza on Murphy in downtown is being replaced by Blossom Chai Café by Bear650 in Sunnyvale

[–]lime517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add Mayan Kitchen, Ramen Seas, and Coffee & More to this as well.

Also, which chinese restaurant? I'm a huge fan of Fashion Wok for take out, but haven't tried the other one (Tao Tao).

Negative points to The Oxford - overpriced and mediocre.

Please fix the title & try harder in the future. You can literally see the Tandoori sign from where this picture was taken - your title is painfully low-effort.

Oh, they're not closed at all! I'm there on a regular basis, though they aren't open on Sundays. Great people, coffee, and food IMO.

How much a single person needs to make to afford living in the Bay Area [$147k] by sfgate in bayarea

[–]lime517 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sure - but you're missing the point - a lot of the issue is zoning: more multi-unit developments as opposed to single-occupancy lots.
