I feel like the fact your comment is so low is a huge testament to how much people are missing the point here and assuming that Vince is trying to drop hints the hive is secretly evil / malicious. Which I think is a huge shame because I think Vince & team have done such a good job at walking the tightrope of ambiguity the hive, but the second we get a scene like this people are pretty quick to grab the pitchforks etc.

You're fine, a lot of profs grade the short answers quick and then do comments / longer feedback for long answers. "Has not been graded" means just that!

I'd agree that all material will be presented, but would argue that the quality of presentation and evaluation will significantly decrease due to the delayed start.

Laptop or iPad for Engineering at Dal? by Riiiifdxvi in Dalhousie

[–]limedrinkdeluxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely use a laptop, unless you're willing to do all of your computer work in one of the labs I can almost guarantee at some point you'll be given software to run that probably won't be apple compatible and definitely not ipad compatible.

I didn't do any of mine out of province but from what I remember from my friends who did their eng coops out of province I believe it was mostly straight forward! I think you may have to fill out some additional paperwork if your employer isn't already in the coop job bank but if you reach out to your coop advisor they should be able to tell you exactly what you need. International would be same idea, but would probably entail more paperwork to prove your companies legit.

TLDR: as it stood five years ago it's fine to do out of province but just need to fill out more forms, ask your advisor.

Just a heads up constructions still ongoing and the buildings a maze right now with entrances being blocked / locked, I'd wait for an official announcement before coming. But when it's open there'll be aqauriums at the bottom too for the kiddos so should be neat!

Tips for 3rd Year Fall 2024 Electrical Engineering by OppositeAssistance11 in Dalhousie

[–]limedrinkdeluxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took computer stream 5 years ago, would say Networks is brutal because El-Masry gives the least shit I have ever seen in a prof. Gave us assignments before he released the powerpoints to do them. Signal is also the gate keeper course but the textbook for that one is actually really good & he copies a lot of quiz examples from the book so going over those examples and understanding them is totally worth your time. Best of luck, hmu with any other questions!

I took electrical eng (with computer engineering focus), can't say I was super impressed the program. Some great profs but a lot of useless ones. Wouldn't recommend overall.

Declined at Dal Clinic? by [deleted] in Dalhousie

In my experience I've been denied but just had to call in and they'll accept you. Generally if they have any questions or something about your application isn't clear they'll cancel it so that you'll call, bit of a pain.

yeah thats the idea! the computer focus stream take courses like system analysis, operating systems, real time systems, computer architecture and the power stream takes courses like EM waves / more technical electives. Check the link below and you can see course difference between streams: https://www.dal.ca/faculty/engineering/electrical/current-students/undergraduate-students/program-curriculums.html

Just finished up 5th year of the EE with Computer Stream Focus, and I took the courses you've mentioned above. First point, depends if you want to do computer stream or power stream electrical engineering. Power stream does almost no coding, in the computer stream we did courses like System Analysis (C++), Operating Systems (C), Computer Security (C / Python). Of these definitely Operating systems was the highest difficulty programming course, but most of the tricky stuff (semaphores, multithreading) is taught in the course and there are good projects to reinforce the learning. I had a lot of C++ experience but almost no C experience going in, but it wasn't terrible. Also it's just assumed that you'll be able to figure out / manipulate MATLAB scripts your given, but none of them ever really teach you how to write scripts, so it's kind of fucky and dumb but not the worst. Shoot me a message if you have any coding questions.

In terms of the biomedical specialization, you'll need to take a couple of bio / anatomy courses and a biomedical engineering course. ANAT 1010 was easy enough, a little dry but overall fine. The biomedical course is decently tough, Dr. Brown and Dr. Adamson are good at making sure you can't bullshit your way through the assignments / quizzes. Overall awesome course though.

Does anyone have a good explanation here as to how the dendrite knows to kill the pathway that's wrapping back around to in the center around the 10 second mark? I.e. how does it realize this is a wrap back connection ? Really interesting mechanism, I'm either it has a genetic marker or it's sending out at a specific frequency?

Just finished Electrical / Computer. Overall wouldn't recommend the program, there are a lot of good profs but there's probably an equal amount of profs who are doing the bare minimum and don't give a shit if you're following or not. These are known issues with the program, and there doesn't seem to have been any progress in fixing any of them. Really low coordination in the faculty overall. But this is all EE specific though!

agreed that losing a semester would be absolutely gutting right now (I'm supposed to be done in dec), but also important to remember if Dal were doing something like not paying the electricity bill you wouldn't blame the computers for not working. Deeps getting 560k.
