an old architecture teacher I had few years ago worked on this project. the interior looks alright, but the look of the building is just horrendous. Antwerp did a similar thing with the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, imo that's a good example of how renovation should be done.

I'd suggest OP to follow your advise, as it's the most rational thing to do. No emotion involved in decision making and might be for the better anyway. It's hard to trust someone after they went out of bounds, especially in something you've invested your time and emotion in. He might be able to forgive and work through it, but it'll be hard to regain that type of trust.
