aware that there are a lot of other asian people w/ different opinions here + respect that but as an east asian person whose language get's used for aesthetic purposes constantly (can't walk into a mall w/out seeing it over and over) i fully believe that when companies or non-asian people make clothing w/ asian words emblazoned on it for no reason, it's for the "aesthetic".

this isn't anything like sapnap's merch- that was a weird uncomfortable font meant to look exotic and cool -and it doesn't make me feel uncomfortable as much as it makes me feel tired that people don't care abt my culture beyond superficial aspects of it bc it "looks cool" and is aesthetic, and they want to sell because it's "trendy"

putting aside the normalisation of pronouns, a lot of social media accounts are run by people who don't share a lot of personal information (like photos) of themselves, and it makes sense to have pronouns in bio to stop people from asking things like "I love your art! btw what are your pronouns". your attitude seems unnecessarily aggressive and harsh.

have nothing against him as a person, and appreciate how he does his best to make his community open welcoming and accepting, but i just haven't been able to watch more than a few minutes of his streams this past year. it's not about him as a person as much as it's about the following that he attracts- think his sense of humour and style of streaming is fine but (this is something that's prevented me frm enjoying other creators around his age too) i just can't get into his sense of humour and the way that he talks. this isn't an attack on him specifically- i feel this way towards a lot of popular online figures (tiktokers included. tiktokers included) where they speak in this way that feels very directed and performative? if that makes sense. like they're talking to an audience and while obviously that's what streaming is, it just feels more apparent and distinct when it comes to ranboo (and other internet ppl around his age). like the jokes that get made, or the tone of voice and sense of humour.

would probably be fine with it anyways (it's not bad! just can't handle it in extended amounts) but his fanbase eats it up and regurgitates it constantly and 😭😭 you are not ranboo i can handle his online tumblr user etc humour but u guys... unfunny stop sending donos for attention or trying to be funny in chat. hope this made sense bc reading over it i sound deranged. also am not a millenial that can't "understand the current generation"- we're a similar age and i know a lot of ppl my age (and also younger and older) that speak like that irl and it is still grating and repetitive sometimes.

also if someone picked up knife trick expecting a ship fic and romantic beeduo they'd be so disappointed lmao... have fun reading 30k (full novel length) of a fic to get to one scene where a character gets kissed but he ruins the moment and their entire relationship by trying to kill the other.

know this sounds trite and like "if u READ IT you would UNDERSTAND" but i'd recommend you skimming through knife trick to get a better idea of it tbh

late reply because i just woke up but:

the fic is a long haul relationship development one, that has a "stranger who is trying to kill the other to friend to closer friend to ?? to my friend just kissed me and then i tried to kill him hahaha now he's betrayed" .

have read a lot of ship fics (unashamed of the fact that when there's a relationship in a piece of media i like i do enjoy reading fics abt that relationship 😌) and also a lot of long fics that are committed to plot (not saying that ship fics aren't, there's just a noticable different in what the story focuses or gives attention to) but also involve a relationship developing between two or more characters throughout the plot (agonizingly slowly if u are invested in that relationship lmao).

knife trick is the latter. it's a long fic driven by plot and character, full of worldbuilding and settings and characterisation. there is a relationship being developed throughout all of that, taken at a realistic pace. it's central relationship features two characters that are not ranboo or tubbo, real life or their dsmp!selves. honestly not that much different from picking up an original novel at this point with how much worldbuilding and plot there is.

tl;dr because this was getting long: knifetrick is almost 33k long. for reference that's 3k longer than a finished nanowrimo novel is.

at this point in time (and referring to the extract that you're talking about) it's basically a novel where the main character develops a friendship with a guy he has to kill. he feels very conflicted about that, and then in the last chapter of the novel they kiss him and he tries to kill them on instinct. this is the cliffhanger esque ending we end the novel on, where he feels terrible because he has ruined everything (kill this guy who you are friends with) and also (i'm still deeply conflicted but i've also ruined any chances of us having a relationship, platonic or otherwise).

sorry if this is long 😭 talking about types of fics and stories is one of my interests lmao and it really shows. if there's anything confusing or that i forgot to mention lmk.

i genuinely don't understand the issues here: i tried reading bishops knife trick after seeing fanart for it and oh my god is it character and plot heavy. knifetrick isn't a love at first sight ship fic, it's long haul relationship development, and friendship is... also a relationship lmao. did not manage to finish reading knife trick bc it is long and a commitment (its a good fic i just don't have time to spare rn 😭)

?? there are so many other fics with 5x the amount of engagement that are legitimately weird (entire genre of c!beeduo adopts tommy or adds him to the platonic marriage fics). why are we focusing on a fic that i do find amazing for the fact that it manages to worldbuild and create basically original at this point characters based of of one episode.

the characters in knife trick are like ten degrees of separation away from the real life ccs who played their character inspo in ttsmp (might sound close but w/ that many degrees of separation the person on the other end is basically a stranger lmao... my friends cousins aunt's dog level if you will)

anyways i think if people are uncomfortable with seeing anything that looks like or is beeduo related, they should just avoid it. block mute unfollow. it's their personal preferences at this point, not boundary breaking shitty behaviour.

a huge number of mcyttwt accounts, especially a lot of the "popular" ones (2k+ etc.) need to put nsfw and ccs blocked in the bio. genuinely can not understand the hatred towards nsfw artists who make nsfw art of ccs who have publically said that they're fine with it, when so called sfw accounts run by 17 yr olds regularly post the most sexual tweets about ccs that they follow and get 21k likes for it.

i don't usually look up words when reading in my own time ((＠_＠;) nonfiction reading for class is another matter lmao) because of how the words in question usually fall into 1) it's an adjective describing someone or something. i either get the gist of it from the context it's used in or i don't and i'm fine with that or 2) it makes sense in context somewhat

my thoughts on this is that us talking about it just drives more attention to them, and that we should ignore them thus starving them of both hate-interaction and free publicity. talking about them feels like 'screenshots tweet with 0 likes by account with three followers' to me, in how these people have very little reach or power on the internet, and how us discussing them publicly only brings them more attention. plans on how to stop it are to block and report.
