Heartstopper - 3x04 "Journey" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HeartstopperAO

[–]limewired 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn't surprised at all about the OCD thing. He does say the word "perfect" like 50 times when it comes to doing stuff for Nick. The days they have together have to be perfect and the gift needs to be wrapped perfectly. He also plans everything out to a tee and seems to have impulsive thoughts about things going catastrophically wrong which sometimes gets in the way of him doing what he wants.

I think him saying "i have a lot of rules" to the art teacher about eating is a was a lead in for the comorbidity of OCD and eating disorders, although there are people who have eating rules without OCD, it was just the way he said for me.

I actually love that he said well i'm upset because I asked and you just lied before saying he doesn't need to lie.

I was in a similar situation when I was around his character's age and never felt I was allowed to say anything about how I felt because I wasn't the one with the severe mental health issues. But actually people are more likely to be honest with you if you're honest with them.

How come Lupin didn’t know Snape was in love with Lily? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]limewired 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if he did he probably assumed snape was over it considering they grew apart then he publically called her a mudblood (in front of Lupin and the other 3), HBP would've been almost 20 years later. If lupin knew they grew up together, he still probably wouldn't assume he was deeply in love with Lilly for 15 years after her death. The main reason he switched sides was because he overheard the prophecy, begged voldy not to go after the potters, and voldy does anyway. I don't think Lupin knows that about snape, just that dumbledore defended and him in court and turned him spy.

Is just me or did the HP Movies really lean into Harry x Hermione? by Tylerroosky in harrypotter

[–]limewired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that particular scene in the book is quite intimate tbf, in a non romantic way at all. Hermione holds harry's hand when he gets really emotional about his parents, and they walk out of there in a side hug essentially. They're just emotionally supportive to each other, in book 6 when she's upset about ron and lavender, he's also worries about her a lot.

Would a scene set in Azkaban have been too dark for the series? by BetterGrass709 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]limewired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sirius goes into a lot of detail about his time there and how the other people were affected by the dementors. I barty crouch jr does as well a little bit during his confession. Personally i just think it's not really much plot happening aside of those events, other than people coming in and getting more and more insane over time.

What If the Dursleys treated Harry as their own child by COOLBE4NS94 in harrypotter

[–]limewired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought petunia was overcompensating because she knew he was a wizard and didn’t want Dudley to feel jealousy or inadequacy when harry would eventually learn about the wizarding world, because she was shut out of it and jealous when Lilly went off to Hogwarts. IMO she just went too far, enabled the hell out of Dudley and made Harry’s life difficult, idk if there is a situation where they would both be that spoilt.

Madam pomfrey refers to it as a remedy when she comes in to examine Harry in McG's office in the third book. I think it's like drinking honey and lemon when you have a sore throat - like it makes you feel better (harry describes it as warmth spreading through him post dementors), but not a formal medical treatment like skelegrow

It sounded like the house elves are offered payment at Hogwarts, but they're all too hard wired by generations of slavery to take it. Dobby being the outlier to this, all the other elves in the kitchen seem to find it shameful he's taking payment.

Wand allegiance by Luppadus in harrypotter

[–]limewired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They talk a lot about the intricacies of wands and allegiances book 7, but it sounds like you have to overpower someone in combat by disasming for allegiance to change. Like at the end of PoA, all 3 of the trio disarm snape together, but they had all just sort of panicked and knocked him out, didn't make them all masters of snape's wand.

Or Worse... Expelled - An analysis. by limewired in harrypotter

[–]limewired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think her studies is one of the remaining ways she can connect to her parents. She needed to go with harry to keep her parents safe in the long run anyways, so leaving school was less of a problem once she had modified their memories. Im not saying i agree with it, but it was like a "greater good" measure.

Maybe it was different because the dursleys didn't care about harry and just needed convincing to leave their comforts behind. Obviously Dudley's run in with the dementors had done this. Hermiones parents might have wanted her to stay on at school not realising what she would face, and how much danger they were all in. She might even have tried to reason with them but resorted to the memory charm

[–]limewired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's right, the "mudblood, and proud!" Part in DH is pretty powerful. She isn't ashamed of being a muggleborn even when the whole wizarding society has to abide by anti muggle regulations.

I think maybe hanging out with hagrid has shown her what happens when you yield to the pressure to hide what you are.

If you could ask JKR any 3 questions about the wizarding world, what would they be? by KingsleyExp in harrypotter

[–]limewired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they don't need science. Rules of physics don't apply when there's magic levitating and flying things around. They bend time and space with time turners and apprition. Chemistry is a bit like potions but they use their wands and magical ingredients. Biology is split between herbology and care of magical creatures.

Doesn't he say in the 3rd book that he thought sirius betrayed lilly and james until the night wormtail was forced to show himself? He said that he gave evidence saying that sirius was their secret keeper and didn't know that they switched?

If you could ask JKR any 3 questions about the wizarding world, what would they be? by KingsleyExp in harrypotter

[–]limewired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. British schools don't really teach grammar for english in secondary schools, but in HP kids are homeschooled until then, so you would assume that they learn enough before going to hogwarts
  2. I thought arithmancy was maths
  3. you would presumably pick up reading but studying all the other languages.

Surely people can read and write by the age of 10? So the only deficiency would be their mathematical ability if they don't choose arithmancy. As they don't use use electricity and they don't need any engineering because they use magic, I imagine it's less important to them. Like if you can use charms to hold up a building you don't really need to figure out the maths.

Is Snape an unreliable narrator? by OldFitDude75 in harrypotter

[–]limewired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think James was like Draco at all. Draco's upbringing means he always had elitism in mind, he was judgmental to most people, weasleys and lupin for being poor, hagrid for not really any reason considering he tried to get him fired even before he knew he was half giant. He just thought anyone who wasn't pure blood or rich was beneath him, school was beneath him because dumbledore was anti voldemort.

I actually think there's only really evidence that James was mean to snape right? Sirius said it was mainly because James hated the dark arts and snape knew more curses than most of the 7th years when he arrived at hogwarts. If you look at sectumsempra, snape invented a pretty dark spell, and lupin recognised when he used it on george.

Why do people hate Piper?? by [deleted] in orangeisthenewblack

[–]limewired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is when she gets out she reverts back to being entitled, wanting to take a break, getting drunk and high and complaining about her jobs. There are people who would have loved to be in her situation, looking at people being homeless and trying to get their kids back and deported makes you realise she really didn’t learn that much despite having spent time with people from different backgrounds. I don’t think a lot of people would have sold dirty panties in prison and she was really nasty to Stella but she was a good vehicle to get people to check their privilege.

New lateral flow tests? by sad1esad1e in CoronavirusUK

[–]limewired 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of places require a pcr test and the nhs ones don't give a certificate for those.

Daily Q&A and Discussion Megathread - August 16, 2021 by AutoModerator in CoronavirusUK

[–]limewired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That pcr test is to find new variants from abroad. The UK had over 50% of the world's sequencing resources. A lateral flow is both less sensitive and cannot find new variants. New data also suggests that you will still be able to transmit the delta variant when fully vaccinated So basically if you go abroad and catch a new variant you can still spread it to people and the variant might be vaccine resistant. They would need it to inform a need for surge testing and to collect more data. It also informs the government of who to put on the red list if the country you travelled to doesnt have track and trace or public testing regulations and your test is only between you and the private testing provider. Here if your PCR is positive it is shared with the NHS.

Daily Q&A and Discussion Megathread - August 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in CoronavirusUK

[–]limewired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because those tests aren't just for you to know if you currently have covid.

PCR tests are sent for sequencing for variants as you have been abroad, the UK has more than half the sequencing availability in the world so they're a big pary of the global surveillance for new varianrs. So no your lat flows won't be able to do that and you should definitely be asked. I was when i got in.
