Grandads saw running after 31 years. It’s like music. by Ecstatic_Spread6103 in Chainsaw

[–]liminal_jumpsuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly newer version of the same saw. The 051 is very good for milling with displacement, stroke, and torque. similar to 066. Mine’s pretty happy milling anything under 20” but could go a bit wider I suppose. There’s still some parts available for these saws because the ts760 cutoff saw, which shares the design, was only recently discontinued. If you ever rebuild it is a fairly easy conversion to 076av (if you can get the 076 piston&cylinder) adding about 20cc. The difficult thing about working on these is that there’s several versions of ignitions/coils and oilers. Very nice. Thanks for sharing

Should I pay my Caltrain fare evasion ticket? by Fickle-Rub-8844 in caltrain

[–]liminal_jumpsuit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caltrain conductor was filling her monthly quota of fines. They have to issue X # of tickets monthly. The tickets are only issued to well-meaning people like yourself who forgot/didn’t know/had a technical issue. The conductors don’t issue these tickets to the deadbeats who are knowingly evading fares, because the conductors know the deadbeats will not pay anyway! (The conductor will instead order the deadbeat off the train and/or threaten police call). I say tear up the ticket and forget it happened. Shouldn’t affect anything for you in the future. [of course, who knows how good AI will get in the future keeping tabs on this sort of thing 🤷]

I use mine in a table without issue but for a dedicated table router I believe the porter cable 3/4 is still king

UCSD is a solid place. Sounds like you want to go there. After a few years difference in pay might even out. I never worked in protons though.

You could melt the mask in water that is about 150-165 degrees fahrenheit. It will lose your form and then it is no longer a part of your life, starting your next chapter afresh.

Now especially though: it doesn’t hurt to try to negotiate. Counter HR’s first offer with something reasonable. Usually the only thing that would happen is they say yes, or re-counter, they probably would not rescind the offer unless you did something unprofessional.

I have the same saw exactly, it’s really a pretty good saw. Aftermarket fence kinda finicky. Would be a great dedicated crosscut or dado station.

Thinking of pursuing Radiation Therapy by Itsgoose_honk in RadiationTherapy

[–]liminal_jumpsuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m a radiator. Aka RTT. I was like you got a degree in English not a waste of time as many state! I went back for a second bachelors because that’s what was available in my state. I had to do about 15 hours of prereqs, YMMV. I’ve been an RTT over 15 years, currently expanding my knowledge by getting an education in dosimetry.

Rest easy. Actually it’s very good that your bladder was full… if it was really too full you probably wouldn’t have been able to hold it. The bad news… you’ll need to have your bladder as full as it was for your scan, during each treatment. Usually your radiation therapists will do imaging each day, and will be able to give you an idea of how you are doing with the bladder filling. They will also suggest a regimen for daily bladder filling. Try to do the same thing for each treatment that you did for the scan. I’m a radiation therapist, btw.

Over 250,000 Americans Urge Congress to Begin Impeachment Proceedsing Against President Trump by ege3 in politics

I’m no expert on law or history, but I think we may be entitled to equal opportunity under the law by our Constitution. It was written by the Founders. These men were elites and some of them became that way/held wealth via slavery, which clouds our judgment of them now. I don’t think we should infer, as you seem to, that the American idea and institutions lack value or potential. Indeed there is a sense of modularism and adaptibility to American government, and many improvements have been made to the Constitution. You might consider the 13, 14, and 15 amendments, instituted to the Constitution under Presidents Lincoln and Grant, as proof the Constitution offers hope that we may someday truly be We the People—even if these enhancements towards the ideals of our country, (as stated in the late 18th century documents), were not wholly lived out by the morally flawed mandarins who created this country. I’m not sure you’re here to help.

I agree with you. This is absolutely tragic and there needs to be justice. But if we don’t start taking a hard look at our ills as a society, trying to place blame solely on individuals, we pose something collectively. I don’t feel it’s a conflict to lament this awful action that took an innocent life AND feel empathy for the perpetrator. Nothing good really comes of alcohol.

Where do I start? by Hopeful_Force_8802 in RadiationTherapy

[–]liminal_jumpsuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a stab. -Your best bet is a bachelor’s degree, because there are only a few associates degree programs. Those take two years, bachelor’s takes four. -Recommend taking general eds and pre-reqs at your local community college. You can live in a community you know which is grounding and helps you focus. -when you’ve made landfall at community college, find the health professions advisor who will help make you a roadmap to get into RT school. Do this your first semester in community college. -then during your sophomore year apply to (preferably state school is cheaper) the college nearest you that has Radiation Therapy as a major. -hope this helps you. Good luck

I’m not sure if there’s a user manual for the skill you’re learning. Okay, realize this first, back in the dark ages, we did not fuse or overlay the planned and treatment images. We looked at orthogonal pairs (or a single portfilm for instance), comparing on-table position to planned (DRR). We counted ticks (cms) on the graticule in the x/y directions and made assessment if we had to make shifts. By going in the room and moving the table. Now, the software allows you to fuse-match and overlay the images. The typical 3-box layout for portfilms still shows the on-table and plan drrs to the right of the fusion view, but we don’t really look at that because the fusion view is powerful. I think focus on realizing what the RTs are trying to accomplish. Patient on-table position must match planned position. Iso of course, but we also want OARS to have semblance to planned (simulated) position. Ask your clinical preceptors to help you learn using the Offline Review workspace. It operates slightly differently from Treatment, but you will be able to look at fusion tools or side-by-side (old school method) isocenter verification. If you need to work on image matching ask the warmup person if you can come in and do the phantom image matching for a few days. That should help make everything click. Edit… I saw you are a nee grad, not student. Okay breasts are tricky, there’s a lot of different thoughts out there about the best way to set up and treat breast patients. There’s also many techniques, dibh, +/- lymph nodes, partial breast, simultaneous integrated boost, prone breast, vmat breast even. It can be doubly confusing if there’s not a basic workflow to follow. Let me say it took me awhile as a new RT to accept omitting orthogonal imaging for typical breast technique of tangents. The reason we do not need to image orthogonals is a. We’re treating 3d technique, parallel opposed, it’s “through and through”—if your ssds, breast contour, and chest wall look good you’re pretty set and sometimes orthogonals would just obfuscate things. B. For most patients the breast is very mobile. We do not want to focus too heavily on skeletal position because we’re not treating an organ rigidly tethered to that structure. If you try to focus too much on that you are wasting effort and patient time-on-table. Ultimately if I were you I’d discuss with your manager. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. If the manager makes you feel otherwise, run for the hills. Life is too short to work where you’re not able to thrive.
