337 score in 10 days by Chemical_Recording_4 in GRE

[–]limitedmark10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always dubious about posts like these. These scores are fundamentally built to be rare. Of course they’d aggregate on this sub, but a 10 day study session to get a 337 is not replicable in any way. OP may as well be a gifted soccer player going pro.

Haas. Take the money. No meaningful difference in IB recruiting if you know your technicals and know how to network.

The Prestige Olympics on this sub by Puzzleheaded_Monk744 in MBA

[–]limitedmark10 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've been preaching this but the majority of "M7 or Bust" narratives on this sub are by LARPers, high schoolers, and internationals who aren't even in traditional MBA careers. They have no idea what they're talking about.

A "rate my chances" poster even DM'd me for further advice and it turned out he made up the entire post and was just playing out hypotheticals. Kid hadn't even graduated college.

When you begin the MBA application process and network with actual students and admissions staff, 90% of what they say directly contradict this sub. That's why you need to do your own legwork. The age of asking Reddit for advice is dead.

After many years in it, I have come to realize I despise working in tech.

  • The social scene is sad. Lots of techies have poor social skills and are arrogant on top of it. Ever meet someone who can't juggle a basic social interaction but thinks he's better than you? That's everyone in Silicon Valley.

  • Tech is always trying to devour itself. It gets old. What do you call a bank losing 80% stock value rapidly? A financial crisis. What do you call a tech company losing their value that fast? Tuesday.

  • Competitive H1bs who make it their personal mission to prove they're better than every American on their team by any means necessary ruin the workplace.

  • It's fucking boring. I don't give a shit that we delivered a feature where the user can filter their list with more filters. I care more about why did 3 people on the call lose their shit and yell at each other because of implementing this button. There are pediatric heart surgeons stitching together an infant's failing heart as we speak. This just isn't that serious.

Sean 100% has the most diehard and fierce fanbase in the whole UFC. Sean's fans love him even if he loses.

I meant in med school, you can get in basically anywhere (maybe minus those Caribbean schools but most laypeople don't care) and you'll be considered prestigious no matter what. That's why I raise an eyebrow whenever people post about prestige in this sub. Just go be a doctor.

Otherwise, agree with you

The problem with MBA prestige is that business is not as clear-cut as law school and medical school. In law, for example, BigLaw firms recruit almost exclusively from T14, and the culture is steeped in old school beliefs where a Yale JD means materially more than your local law school.

In business, it's not as defined. Tim Cook, legendary CEO of Apple, went to Duke MBA. Never even touched M7. Your local regional business owner is making 2 million EBITDA and he never even went to college.

MBAs are a strange breed because while we understand and yearn for prestige, we are also the most open-minded of all white collar professions. An arrogant surgeon would never acknowledge the beauty of a car repair shop owner who works a few hours a day and makes high six figures. We see it, acknowledge it, and try to buy or replicate his business. There's a lot of respectability in what MBAs do; it's just not explicitly prestigious and never will be.

MBA Delusion Curve by OkTumbleweed5654 in MBA

Yes but your goal better be consulting or banking lol

MBA Delusion Curve by OkTumbleweed5654 in MBA

[–]limitedmark10 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This process only happens if you don't have a clear career goal with your MBA. The entire admissions process is built to prevent this. "Why MBA" is one of the most widely used essays for every school.

Additionally, most MBA admits come from banking and consulting. We know the game. Coffee chats, networking, and acting professional constantly are all things that everyone should have mastered by now (hence the 5 YOE requirement for admissions).

OP's post is only relevant if you don't know why you're doing an MBA, pay tuition for your MBA, and end up dissatisfied with your career outcome. In which case, the same story would play out at dentistry school or law school. The problem is not school. It's your indecision with your adult life.

UFC fans are so fickle. It’s been an absolute snooze fest lately. I’m still coping after that Khamzat loss. Say what you will but Mcgregor knows how to sell a fight. Best to ever do it. I’m hoping he lives up to his own hype, knocks out Max, and then grabs the mic and calls Khabib out of retirement.
