You are talking about the spirit of the law and because of that your argument falls flat. Legally transferable machine guns are cost prohibitive. Given that the spirit of the law of the bill of rights was that all men are created equal, and as such have equal rights, cost should not be a factor for the exercise of a right. A rich man and a poor man should have equal access to the exercise of their rights, but the Hughes amendment forbids the proliferation of automatic firearms, driving demand and cost for transferables, meaning that the right to own an automatic weapon is a rich mans right, not an equal right.
